Go to baits or rigs for pre-spawn

Featured Replies

New to the forum here.  Just wondering what some of you guys use as your "go to" baits or rigs for pre spawn.

For example; lure(s), jigs, texas-style worm/lizard/ or other plastic, carolina-style worm/lizard/ or other, drop-shot, split-shot, etc...  And that's only if you don't mind sharing.

I've usually concentrated on worms and lizards texas-style and have not done bad, just  looking for other suggestions, or etc as I'm heading to fork March 12-15, and was thinking of trying some different techniques/presentations.

Thanks!

Any information you share would be greatly appreciated.

I love fishing tubes in the spring. I also like fishing spinnerbaits.

Tiny tubes, lizards, hard jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits...

I like horizontal presentations: crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits and the like.

Thanks for chiming in with suggestions guys.  Would anyone have a link or suggestion for rigging a tube?  Never rigged one before - I did pick some up last fall on sale - just havn't tried them as it's unfamiliar territory for me.

Thanks!

you can just texas rig a tube. Depending on where you're fishing, open water or bed fishing, you might want the hook exposed for a better hookset.

Thanks RushFactor.  I'll experiment at my local pond this week.

I don't even have to think on this one.

Lipless Cranks, Tubes, Worms, Jigs, Spoons, AND TOPWATER!

For more info... this might help!   ;D  YOU CAN ALSO CLICK ON YOUR STATE ON THE BOTTOM, AND OTHER SPECIES!!!  ;D ;D

Thanks for the link and your input.  Please understand I was more interested on what other members on this forum consider their "go to baits" in the pre-spawn.

No disrespect meant, there is some good information on that link.  I hope you don't take any offense to my response as none is meant.

P.S. Regarding the lipless cranks, seeing more and more people suggesting those...might have to break down and buy a couple to try.  I'm a creature baits guy at heart and primarily stick with plastics, but of course, I do fish cranks, spinners, buzz baits, rattle traps, jerks, a variety of top-water lures, and my personal "old faithful"...rooster tails.   :)

Guessing it might be time to add a few lipless cranks to the arsenal.

Thanks Again!

The website referenced above has no credibility:

SMALLMOUTH BASS

World Record: 10 lbs - 14 oz  :-?

Regarding lures for pre-spawn, choose your favorite lures.

Everything works this time of year!

redish rattle traps, plastics slow, slow cranks

one thing i like to do is use deep diving cranks in shallow water. slow roll it (due to lack of better terms) allow the bill to bounce off the bottom .pause and start.. slow. this works for me year round if they are shallow of course

Yea 10lbs 14oz isn't right. I am pretty sure its like 12 lbs or something very close. correct me if i am wrong.

Soft Palstic Jerks ( Fluke type baits), Rapala ( Original Floaters) between F9 and F11, Rapala Shad Raps and x raps .

Tube hands down, but I am almost positive any plastic bait will catch them.

My confidence bait in the spring has always been a Rat-L-Trap(Bill Lewis only).  Being a big pike fisherman I just love that aggressive strike.

Over the past year or so I have really grown to love worm fishing and I will be trying this more and more this spring along with tubes and drop shotting.

My favorite bait of the last 10 years!
