We've talked about it but there just isn't enough activity pertaining to the Spotted Bass to even fill one page of a forum.

In this part of the country, Kentucky Bass are trash fish. We catch

a lot, but I don't know a single person that actually fishes for them.

I release them, but I am not opposed to killing every single one.

When my partner and I have "meat hunters" aboard., we keep all

legal bass.

I dont mean this sarcastically at all, but spots are delicious. I hate cleaning fish but every once in awhile I'll kill some 2 lbers for the table.Over populated in our lakes anyway.

by not lazy you mean small, athletic, and stupid right? ;D

Its not laziness, its efficiency, lol.

I'm starting to like spots actually. They are downright mean.

My lake has very few largemouth and I would rather fish for spots than catfish, bream, or crappie.  A 12" spot can be a lot of fun on 4lb line and a light tackle rig and they are more aggressive and easier to catch in cold weather than largemouth.  So, I am thankful to have Kentucky Spotted Bass to catch.  :)

By the way, that is a 4 lb 7 oz largemouth in my avatar that came from Marben Farms PFA on 4 lb line, so I will fish for largemouth if offered the opportunity.

Triton Mike is a first class bass guide, and if you want to have a fun day and catch a lot of fish, book a trip with him this spring on Allatoona.

Now Kent,  I know for a fact Whitten fishes for them when he goes to Bay Springs.  I know this cause he's asking me how to catch them :) LOL.

Now a dink forum we could pull off. ;)

We can call it Burley's Place.

Dinks and spots belong on the same board anyway they are both the same size. Just call it the spot/dink board.  ;D

I will admit to fishing for spots sometimes but thats just because GA is about to break the WR for spotted bass and I wouldn't mind having a WR. A 10 pound spot is the only one worth catching.

If Georgia broke the record, California would have it back in a year. I would put money on it.

Yup. And it's true too! That's OK. I'm even happy with chubs and a hand-line. You know, it even seems that BassMaster mag is embarrassed about the north. They only recognize bass over 10lbs. Maybe a new mag should be developed, DinkMaster.

Hey, while we're at it, how about a redeye, Coosa, or Guadalupe board???

Oops!

If Whitten is targeting them, there must others, too. It seems that

we found them schooling at the mouth of a tributary creek in June

last year or the year before. There were three of us in the boat so

we kept 15, but probably caught 25-30 apiece. Amazingly, every fish

came from the same cookie cutter, the size of each fish did not vary

more than a few ounces.

So, I'm busted...I have fished for them, too. I suspect Mike Whitten's

interest is for tournament fishing, especially on a slow day. Kentucky

bass count and although you're chances of a big fish are slim, they

seem to be found in schools. Quick limit?  Makes sense to me.

8-)

Actually he was telling me about 7lbers being caught in Bay Springs?? I think a few of those will put a dent in the scales :)  Kent I forgot you live on the wrong side of Tennessee :).
