is there a thread on here that i could read and learn to skip a lure i have the general idea but just wondering if there was a certain trick

 There have been a number of threads on this subject. It's easier with spinning gear than baitcasting. One of KVD's videos tries to explain it some. Can't do it myself :-[, from the threads I've read the only trick is practice, practice and more of the same (practice) ...

yup you have to practice it can be done with a baitcaster also but you gotta have awesome thumb control or tighten tension and brakes and whip it realy hard you also want a nice soft rod with a good back bone

I would have a better chance of meeting God than skipping with a baitcaster and not getting an enormous professional overrun!

Its really not all that difficult. Like has been said, all it takes is practice. Easier with a spinning reel. Think back to when you used to skip rocks. Side arm with force.

Much of it is in the wrist with a good follow through.That said most of the time I skip I use a quick roll cast .You just have to keep trying to do it to develope the proper body mechanics.

How far the lure hangs off the rod can have a dramatic effect on the type of skip as well.Yes there are different types of skips and certain lures do it better than others.You want to learn then the best bait to use would definately be a texas rigged senko or a texas rigged tube or a ribbit frog.

I would watch and i know I'm not alone,

I saw Jimmy Houston demonstrate it pretty good on one of his shows but it was for getting spinnerbaits under overhanging trees. KVD was doing it and putting a small crankbait between two moored boats about 12" apart. Neither one actually addressed skipping under docks etc. I use spinning gear but learning with baitcasters would be a plus.

I attempt it quite a bit, but I think I could learn a lot from a video!

there are alot of docks at a local lake I fish and would like to see how it is done. Video would be great

keep your bait low, cast side arm and really try to whip it back there. senko's skip really well. and if you use a really thin line you will be able to skip it further. i use 10-14# suffix braid.
