Top water swimbaits/wake baits

Featured Replies

I've got a baby wake perch and its a blast to fish and works great I plan to get some more floating swimbaits. Heres what I plan to get am I missing anything $50 is about my limit. I have an okuma heavy so I can throw pretty good sized baits.

Another baby wake

ms slammer or 2

matts hard gill floater and woody

I just picked up the hard blue gill floating. It looks sweet. Can't wait to use it.

You could get a BDB Shellcracker, or a similar bait made by the same manufacturer at a discounted price from ***. From what I understand he has a few left.

Here are a couple floaters that I have tried:

Lunker Punker JR.-they now make them in plastic, I picked up a couple but I haven't tried the plastic ones yet. The originals are great.

Daiwa Dead or Alive-Tried it a few times last year, picked up a few small fish, but haven't gave it a true workout.

Black Dog Shellcracker- its OK, I would much rather have the Punker.

Mattlures Hardgill-(I can't wait to fish it). Maybe the best looking swimbait I own.

Rago Delta Rat-jury is still out but d**n it looks good in the water.

Lucky Craft Bulldog-Caught a toad on this floater last year.

BBZ-1-Good if you can keep the fins from falling off. I won't buy another one just out of principle. Something to be said about knockoffs.

MS Slammer-what else can be said about maybe the best topwater of all time. Make sure you change out the hooks to Owners.

Wake Jr.-The king of topwaters IMO, but out of your price range. You can get them sometimes for ~70 from people that are trying to sell them.

Is the action on the wake jr. that much better than the baby wake?

I like the baby wake because I can throw it on a regular medium heavy rod instead of bringing my swimbait rod along that I might or might not use and its half the price.

I have a few you have the Slammer, mattlure hardgill and Woody are my favorites. I only tried them out so far but they look great. I love the bass color of the Slammer. I also like waking a giron I caught several fish doing this last summer.

Maybe they make some money, but I would guess they put a lot of time on the water experimenting and building a prototype shellcracker. Furthermore, they are priced according to other hard bluegill swimbaits on the market. Personally I don't care for the Shellcracker. I would much rather throw something else.
