I met a guy the other day who is a pro angler and a guide. He says he also gives lessons while you you are out. Is this good to do when you are just starting out?

The only way to get better is to fish with people that are better anglers. I only fished crank baits and spinner baits when I started fishing bass, now since I fish with people that fish soft plastics, jerk baits and other things, by watching and asking questions I am a lot better. I catch a lot of bigger fish a lot more consistently.

Without a doubt if you can, do it.

curve.  Your opportunity with the guy you met sounds great to me.

A really good guide should be offering tips and suggestions, in my opinion.  That is part of the experience, not just being put in an area that holds a few fish.    Anyone can choose not to take the advice.  Have a great trip.  What part of the country will u be fishing?

I have been bass fishing for over 20yrs and consider myself a good angler. Even so, there is always room to learn new things from guides. Once a year i will schedule a guided trip in a new place, forget everything i know and just let the guide, well, guide me! This year i am debating between Lake Okeechobee or Miami(born and raised) for some Peacock action! BEST OF LUCK

Yes, Yes, and Yes.  Last year went down to a new lake that that I had never fished before and did okay.  This year went to the same lake and hired a guide who had been fishing the lake for thirty years.  We just went with him for the first day.  It was a world of difference.  We were using different tactics from my familiar waters, had a great time, and caught a lot more fish.

Now I just gotta figure out a date. Going to do it more as a learning experience.  

I have only been out with a guide once.  His name was James Niggemeyer, who is now an Elite series pro.  It was absolutely worth every penny.  We didn't catch a ton of fish that day, but the things he showed me about reading a depth finder, and what to look for to locate fish in deep water was priceless!

I'm hoping to learn how to read the water better and learn which Lures to to use.
