I was reaching down to pick up my rod and on the way down my hand was head towards the hook which slid right under my fingernail.  It was a one in a million shot.  Luckily it could of been a heck of a lot worse, but it was definitely doin' some serious bleedin'.  

The thought of that makes me cringe.  OUCH! :'(

a shiver ran up my spine as i read that. I had a hook go through the top of my fingernail and just barely into the tissue underneath but having one run under the nail would be way worse.

Being a machinist I've had my share of steel slivers jammed under a fingernail. Everytime I think of it I go lightheaded.

Yeah i'm fine.  As I said it could've been much worse.  I would've taken a picture but that didn't exactly cross my mind when I was trying to clean it and stop the bleeding....

But the fact that you requested the picture just gave me a good idea.  I'm going to start a thread about it in the Everything Else section.  Another forum has a "rule" called Rule #1 which I think could be very useful on this site.

Also I would snap a shot now but there is really nothing to see.  Being that the cut was under the nail it would just be a pic of a fingernail with a little red dot on it.

I know how u feel i had one go Under my finger and come up through my nail (2 pound bass on a firetiger bomber 1985) lesson learned if u seen me today catch a bass on a crankbait ud think i was a newbie im really paranoid about crankbaits

I did this a couple weeks ago:

Treble through the nail out through the fingertip. Coulda been much worse.

Now you know why Chinese bamboo under the fingernails was an effective torture method.

I hooked myself last week in the fatty base of my thumb on the palm.

That was not bad.  Once out, it never bothered me.

Every time you use your finger that has to throb, at least for a few days.

i had a bass flop around in the boat and smash a spinnerbait trailer into my foot, the flop around and with me yelling,then yank it back out,.i dont fish in sandals anymore...

bottledgt - i had a similar accident 2-3 years ago and i also no longer fish in sandals.
