Seasonal Thoughts

Featured Replies

I thought since the summer is starting to wind down that I would make a post on the four seasons. Do you stop fishing when the water gets cold? Since I am in the south, most of the time the water isn't frozen, so I can still fish. I don't hunt (usually) so that is also a contributing factor. Winter is probably my favorite season to fish, beside Spring. I feel like Winter is the season that I have the best chance to catch a double digit, it's just a lot slower and more challenging.

So, here it is:

Do you fish in the Winter?

What is your all around favorite Season?

No HARD WATER around here either. Pretty much fish year round. Actually would rather fish mid-winter than mid-summer myself...

Everyone thinks that SoCal doesn't have seasons, it's always warm.

That maybe true to some extent, the bass do have seasonal periods, even in the warm climates like CA and FL.

Winter

Pre-spawn

Spawn

Post-spawn

Summer

Fall

Six seasonal periods based on water temperature. It's important to recognize seasonal changes as they affect what the bass prefer eat and where they tend to locate during each period.

My favorite season is pre-spawn and I bass fish all year.

I fish for bass from ice out to ice in.

When the lakes get hard, up here we switch species....

I usually just take January - mid February off. I use this coldest period to take care of reels, respool everything and get organized. But, if there is a warm weekend during this time....I am out there.

Yes sir, dec-feb are my favorite times to fish. Hardly any boat traffic and fat fish. I don't catch as many but they are usually chunky.

Here in the Mid South, prime time for smallmouth is fall to spring,

October through March.

I'll fish spring, summer, and fall for bass.

In the winter I'll be hunting for deer, pheasant, or quail.  Doesn't mean I won't fish at all in the winter, I will if I have the time, but with my other sporting hobbies I probably won't.

4 seasons out of the year and all of them have there high points.

Winter ...bigger fish stacked in one area and on the lake I fish simply the best time to throw a jig.

Spring...eating up after winter, spawn and then herring spawn and the best topwater action of the year.

Summer... schooling on humps and everyone else seems to be beating banks. Love throwing a fluke in 25-30 feet of water. Numbers and quality can be really good at times. Plus in this one the stripers school on the same areas and if the bass are slow you can always find the stripers.

Fall.... best buzzbait, crankbait and spinnerbait time of the year. Fish are feeding like crazy and 15-20 quality fish a day become very normal. By the way winter is coming and the jig bite will be on again.

Here, my favorite season is From October to May. It is absolutely brutal trying to fish here in the summer, although I do it. From June to September it is normally 108 to 118 degrees nearly every day. :P
