Suggestions for a fishing trip

Featured Replies

Well next month my everyone in my family is taking seperate trips for the hell of it... Brother/sister to cancun, mother to CA.. That leaves me to plan a trip and you bet your *** it's going to be a fishing one!

Any suggestions would be appreciated since I'm sure there are guys on here more knowledge able about what and where the fish are biting this time of year. It'll be a trip for two, and my main goal is to catch a big one not just numbers, but if both if possible, I'm all for it. I would like to stay within the US but am not going to rule out Mexico just yet.

Florida..................Contact  George Welcome...........

I would really think about Mexico.  Go there if you can.

But if things don't work out for you going to Mexico I would go to Amistad or the California Delta.

Brazil... Go for one of those 20lb peacocks

Florida... Lots of places, guides

Mexico... Lake El Salto

or

Montreal, Canada... Currently -21c outside plus windchill. You could go ice fishing and freeze you butt off !!!!

EL Salto!!! I went with El Salto Lodge.  Google it.

Also, some of the crushers on this board always say they want to fish at Stick Marsh/ Farm Pond 13.  After checking it out, I couldn't agree more.  Google it.  You're nuts if you don't hit one of those two places IMO.

Lastly, tell your sister and brother to stay away from Cancun and go hit Tulum or Isla Mujeres or Akumel, or even Playa Del Carmen instead.  All those places are within 60 miles of Cancun and are WAY more tropical, beautiful, mellow and fun.  Cancun has turned into kind of an armpit if you ask me.  Lots of busses and taxis and annoying clubs and bars and drugs and pollution.  For that they might as well go to NYC.  Just an opinion as I've been to many different places in Mexico once or twice a year for the past 6 years.

If it were me I would do something that I can't do at home, there are so many great locations.  Fished Mexico more times than I can count with stellar results.  This is a real killer place and remote.

ive always heard that texas has some big bass, and i forget the name of the lake in mexico but ive seen pictures of monsters coming out of it.

Jim Porter would suggest you go somewhere else but I will tell you a secret........

Go to Stick Marsh / Farm 13.

If you don't have a boat, call George Welcome.

You can catch a lot of fish and you can catch fish like this.....

It really depends how deep your pockets are:

Peacock Fishing in South America can be amazing, but EXTREMELY pricey. It's thier summer there now.

Mexico offers tremedous freshwater Bass fishing also, but again, it can be very, very pricey for just a few days.

Southern Florida is another option; George Welcome of "Imagination Bassing" can put you onto some HAWGS on Stick Marsh/Farm 13, and has been doing so for a long time.

I contacted George a few weeks back, his rates seem fair and the general concensus is that he'll make sure you get some bigguns.

Also was looking at Mexico, huites, rate is triple what georges are but Im sure it will be worth every penny...

I wont do a Brazil trip yet because I will be meeting up with my father who isnt an avid angler, my main goal is to get him on some fish, pulling somedouble digits will just be a bonus. I dont think he would be able to handle a peacock just yet. But it is on the bucket list

There are more exotic places, but if you want to catch multiple fish over 4 lbs with excellent possibility of catching a couple over 8lbs and up to 12lbs. Come to the Big G. Guntersville is entering into that time of year when the BIG Mamas come out to play.  One day tournament weights for the past couple of week has been 32 to 35 lbs.  There are some very knowledgeable guides to help.
