Tax refund; buy Jon boat trailer or more rods and tackle

Featured Replies

So I'll be getting about $700 back from my tax refund.  I have a Jon Boat, that I keep at my home lake and would like to buy a trailer to fish other lakes. I only have 4 rods that I fish, and you could never have enough tackle. What would you do with the money? Trailer or rods, and more tackle???

You "only" have 4 rods, I 'm a tackle junkie and I tell you, you really don 't need more rods right now. I would purchase the trailer.

Depends what you already own. if you have a few rods and descent tackle, you have to buy the boat and trailor.

There's going to be a million times in your life, when the bait monkey tackles you and beats you to a pulp, and when he does, you're usually going to give in and hit the bait shop.

Conversely, you're not just going to waltz into a store and buy a john boat trailor any old time you feel like it. Take advantage of this moment to get yourself on different waters with a killer new trailor. Then, when the bait monkey comes calling in a few months you can slowly get yourself a new rod here and some new crankbaits there without going broke.

A trailor is more to you than just a "boat transport" it's a way to open up your whole fishing life and go to many different lakes and see so many more things. Different landscapes, different fish, different structure, and different cover. With your new trailor, you'll be able to experience all sorts of cool stuff that the baits and rod just can't give you. The trailor isn't just a trailor, it's your ticket to opening up a whole new universe of fishing.  Go get that thing!

trailer... more gear can be bought later if needed but a trailer will take you and your boat farther and have more fun

Trailer 100%. Try and buy a used one and spend the balance at TW or in the fishing flea market.

No brainer.

TRAILER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I vote trailer as well.

Trailer.  It will get you to more places.  Another 700 dollars worth of gear won't.

I have 14 combos.  When I fish alone, I may bring as many as eight.  When I fish with a buddy, it's three to five.  Usually five, but I seldom use one or two of them.

I don't like to waste fishing time having to retie when I want to change my bait.

I agree with above, but you can do both. I found a great Jon Boat trailer on Craig's List for $250, I replaced hubs and rerouted brake cables and now have an almost new trailer that would retail for well over $500.

So be patient keep searching and save some $$$$, open up an trading account and buy some TM or CEF for the long haul and it will beat the pants out of the savings account return!!!

$600 max on the trailer. Put the other $100 into Coca Cola stock. I think it will split within the next 3 months.  :)

A stock split is no guarantee that the value of the stock will rise, just more shares.

If my tax refund was my sole savings account, I'd save the money for a real emergency, but that's just me.

If you're married buy your wife something, it's her money too.

I would look for atrailer if I was you :)

How come no answer is just simple? Also, it always goes off topic. People actually think that If I had only $700 to my name I'd spend it on a trailer? I HAVE a savings account (with plenty in it), and I DO NOT HAVE a wife. Every year I take my tax return, and I buy something for myself. It was a simple question that people who don't know the situation have to throw their two cents in.  just aggravated.
