Ouch!

Featured Replies

Since the ice has melted on the lakes around here, I went to purchase my fishing license for the season yesterday.

The price went up $10 from last year!! Usually it goes up a dollar or two but this is the largest increase I have ever seen in one year.

That's a rather large increase for one year.Did you contact your DNR to find out why so much ?

No I didn't. I chalked it up to the financial crisis we are in here in New York. Its so bad here the Gov is holding tax refund checks from being sent out for a few weeks so the state can pay its bills.

NY is up to $29.

When the clerk told me "That will be $29" I had to say all I want is the fishing license. I figured he might have thought I wanted to buy something else lying on the counter. When he told me that is the price of the license I asked him wasn't it $19 last year and he said "Yep, they raised the price $10"

$29 is cheap compared to PA. Our license costs $38.40 for residence license with combo stamp for fishing lake erie & streams.  :'(

$10 increase is mucho.  KS fishing license is $20.50 and didn't increase from previous year...surprising.  Which only means they're hiking it up next year.

New Hampshire's is $35, but that doesn't get you a salmon stamp, just all other species in freshwater.

It's interesting here in Colorado because the price has been $30.25 for the past 3 years at least.

What's so interesting is that there's no state funding what so ever here in Colorado for the Division of Wildlife.  The DOW is run and funded and supported by anglers buying licenses, as well as anglers getting fined for NOT having licenses as well as other offenses.  All that money goes to pay staff and everything else.  It's kinda cool actually.

50 bucks down here, but it 's Federal.

Hey Joe Boss tack on another 10 bucks if you plan on fishing the Hudson River below the Troy Dam!! Being it's tidal you will need the NEW salt water licence. >:( And let hope our State Tax refund does not become an I Owe You!!

I Love NY!! :o

Our's doubled ;)

Don't want to open a can of s___, but as the Federal Government puts more on the States--all state services have to go up!! 8-)

Would you rather the license stay the same price and the  state department of fish & game have to cut services to the point of being nonexistent?

Most, if not all (and I haven't researched at all), state game & fish departments are completely self-supporting.  License sales are their sole means of funding.  It doesn't help that some states have begun raiding those funds to pay for other pork.

Wisconsin is $20 a year for residents.This year I can get a seniors' licence for $7. :)

Bait Monkey all ready given me the look! ;D ;D ;D

Missouri Resident Fishing permit is $12, and has been that for at least the last couple years. You can add trout to that for $7, which I always do just in case I go, although I rarely go trout fishing.

I wish they'd add a trout stamp here.  That way, trout funds could be aligned with actual trout anglers, not political groups.

EXACTLY!!

Ours has been $26 for the last couple of years, plus 5 for warm water stamp. (aka bass stamp)  almost going to be $70 for the whole family this year.

if you live in NY gov. Patterson (and i quote)any thing fun and recreational should cost more cause not every can do it like his blind a**

For those complaining, here's what I'll spend this year on licenses.

VA resident - $36

TN non-resident x 2 - $82

Alabama 1 week non-resident x 3 - $76

Chances are I'll be buying WV, KY and NC non-resident as well.

They just added 10 dollars to the mass license for salt water.

Bought mine last year in June..SC runs from July 1-June 30..was $10...has been that as long as I can remember. But, lately there has been talk of the SCDNR not doing so well, so looking for them to go up this year.
