at my lake, the is a grassy flat the runs out from the bank about 30 yards and is about 70 yards long. i see small minnows being clased here in the mornings and evening but i cant seem to catch many fish here. at the bank its less than a foot and it goes out to about 6 feet before it drops off down to around 15ft. water is stained. ive had some luch with senkos, x-raps, flukes, and spinners. any other tactics or ideas? thanks guys!!!

I would try working a T-rigged soft swimbait (Lake fork magic shad/skinny dipper/Big Ez) through the grass. Which bait to use would depend upon the size minnow you are seeing chased. A willow blade spinnerbait would be worth a throw also.

If I couldn't get hit on the swim/spinner bait, I would try ripping a trap (provided the grass isn't too thick). The action of a lipless crank ripping out of grass can sometimes trigger a reaction strike. Remove the center treble to make it more weedless.

Try a wakebait.  I just fished similar location this morning, and I caught 10 fish, before going to work.  The ones I like are from OSP.

Wakebait or ripping a rattletrap fro the grass

Chatterbait, split tail trailer or remove the skirt and put a fluke or money minnow on the chatter jig mechanism

swarming hornet underspin 1/4oz with a zoom tiny fluke

kalins swim jig 3/8oz

For a more subtle approach, try the swim jig in 1/4 or 3/8 oz. Fish it like  a  spinnerbait w/o blades.

I like to nick the grass for more reaction strikes.

Use the rig shown in my avitar on top of the deep part of the weeds and work it just past where the weeds end.

Try a dropshot with the sinker set so that the bait just brushes through the top of the grass.

Rig it weedless if possible.  Use a cylindrical sinker, it will go through the grass easier than the round drop shot sinkers.

I like to feel the sinker fetch up in the grass from time to time, then pull free.  Doesn't matter if the sinker has vegetation hanging from it. 

Another favorite is the wacky jig head hooks with the weed guards for vegetation.  You can use wacky rigged worms, craw type plastics, creature baits, etc.

Work it around through the vegetation along the bottom, or suspended above the bottom, but still in the weeds.

I prefer the 3/32 ounce weighted hooks.  A different weight may work better for you.  It depends on how you tend to work your retrieve.

what i would do is throw a paddletail.

texas rig a paddletail worm (zoom speedworm,ultravibe,gambler flappin tail etc.) on a 3/16oz weight and fan cast the entire flat paying close attention to any points or gaps. run it just above the weeds then just below the surface. find out what they want. paddletails are awesome esp in the summer and from what i gather from this forum and other places alot of people dont throw them so itll be new to your fish. 8-)
