Weirdest Thing You've Reeled In

Featured Replies

There has probably been a thread about this before, but I don't remember one as long as I have been here.

What's the strangest thing you have reeled in excluding fish.

I have caught a spinning reel before and a couple socks, but that's about it.

What about you guys?

A 3 ft watersnake - it grabbed my grub and wouldn't let go. Pulled it all the way in to the bank and lifted it out of the water and it was still grabbing the grub. Banged it into the bank about 3 times before it would let go...

Lampshade.  Caught it as a kid, about 18 years ago.

Some crazy stuff in those lakes. I've nailed the most weird things on Lake of the Ozarks. I've caught a shoe (was made of a leather material), Zebco 33 combo, bottom part of a bikini that was all ripped up, and 2 pairs of sunglasses. Definitely a party lake.

I pulled out a lawnchair once, I got caught on something, waded in to get my lure unstuck, and ended up dragging the chair out.  I also pulled a spool of line out of the water at a boat launch that i fish fairly frequently.

though i didnt land it i hooked on to a beaver once bullhead fishing.

we got there and i said "lets get a rock and scare him off, no need for him to get tangled in line".

my buddy says "no he is ok, we wont have any trouble with him"

not 10mins later, BAM! a big splash, #%*@ i hooked the the beaver. he broke me off in like 15sec...only 6lbs line

I caught about a 5' alligator on a spro frog once.

He put up a good fight for about 10 minutes.

When I got him to the boat he gave me that look like what are you going to do now.

I'll lip bass all day long but I am not sticking my thumb in a gators mouth.

I cut the line and off he went with my frog.

Lol, It's seriously just a matter of time until this happens to me.  I can only imagine your reaction when you saw a gator on your line, haha.

Fishin the Striper run on the Hudson River below the Troy Dam I snagged a dead calf on a Shad Dart!! :o

When I lived in SoFla, I hooked-up with a little 3ft gator and got him close to the bank before he started thrashing and broke free. I didn't officially "land" him though so he doesn't count.... ;D

Flat rocks. In the river they sometimes run

and dive, the fight can be awesome!

Clam on a spinnerbait. I felt the tug and weight, but it felt like i was reeling in a 1/2 pound rock....weirdest thing.

Last year I snagged a large dead crow... It was weird and quite disgusting.

That's funny, I did the same thing last summer... ;D

I got out of work early one day and decided to bank fish a  res on the way home. I felt a bite on my jig and went to set the hook. Well, I missed the fish, the lure came flying out of the water just missing my head and hooked onto the passenger side mirror of a passing F150. I got spooled.... :D

Lol, thats pretty funny, using braided line I assume?  I see little 3ft gators all the time in the canal I fish.  As soon as they see the big idiot standing on the bank waving a stick around with line attached to it, they hiss and submerge until they go past me  :D

I am sure this is pretty common, but I caught a snapping turtle swimming a curly tail grub.  I thought I was snagged at the time.  I was trying to break my line, but then it starting moving.   When I got it closer it was the snapping turtle.  He unhooked himself, thank goodness.

Hooked up somebody's Jacket, and there are some small minnows inside the pocket.

A snapping turtle with a shell the size of a manhole cover.  I was maybe 10 y/o and fishing sunnies, and I was scared ****less of that thing.  It was hissing!
