What is the difference?

Featured Replies

What is the difference between a flipping jig and a finesse jig? can you use both for the same thing? what weights are preferred? thanks

The size and shape of the head, the size ( volume & length ) of the skirt and the width of the hook.

Can and should are two different animals, in practical terms yes you can use both for the same, you can flip with a finesse jig, should you ? nope, the hook found in a finesse jig is too thin for a technique that requires stronger hooks like flipping.

not a jig expert but the first thing that comes to mind is the size and weight difference. Finesse jigs are typically smaller and lighter than flipping jigs.

I would generally use flipping jigs for flipping, and finesse jigs for sparser cover. However one company does make a finesse flipping jig, which is a smaller jig with a heavier gage hook.

finesse is lighter

Yeah right   ::)

7/16 oz "finesse" jig "light", yeah right  ::)

Almost 1/2 oz "light" yeah right  ::)

Couldn't agree more! The only other difference is a true finesse jig will have a softer/lighter weedguard.

finesse jigs generally have a smaller profile. flipping jigs usually have heavier hooks for fishing cover
