Weightless Fluke Fishing?

Recommended Posts

I have been fishing a weightless super fluke in vegetation with some success but am interested in any changes I should make. I use 20 lb fluoro with a swivel attached to 15 lb p line leader and a 4/0 EWG hook. I have been catching a lot of 3 lbers but no really big ones. Any suggestions?

What type of line is the leader?  If it is flouro, make the main line 15 with a 12 lb leader.

Maybe a 5/0 weighted hook will help. I like them fished on those hooks to get them in the grass a bit better!

I screw a HitchHiker into the nose of the fluke then put it o a 3/0 Gamakatsu finesse wide gap weedless hook and put a piece of tubing for trailer hooks on to keep the fluke from sliding off. It's called the stoopid rig and I fish it with jerks and twitches and will also jerk it and let it fall, catch most that way.

Would not change a thing.  Just a matter of time till it happens, if in fact that area has larger fish, it may not.

I'm catching quite a few in the 5-7lb range and I'm just about convinced the areas I fish don't contain larger fish.

You are already catching class A fish, why would you want to change?

The bait works flawlessly on a simple EWG hook.  weedless, has the deadly fall, etc, no need to add or change anything.

If I HAD to add something, it would be the 2nd fluke to make it a double-fluke rig.

Anyone using the 7" Mag super fluke? Just wondering if the bigger bait would get me bigger fish. And what is this double-fluke rig?

LBH he lives in Texas, we call 3lbs bait down here  ;D LOL

Man if your already catching fish you only need to make your bait bigger. I know you've been using 7in mag fluke, but get a 7in Lake Fork Tackle live magic shad. This bait is bigger and can be fish like a fluke. If that doesn't work try a 8in floating worm, these seem to produce at least one or two really nice fish when the bite is on.

If I were to change anything with what you have I'd remove the swivel.  IMO, it hampers the action of the Fluke.

Have fished a super fluke weightless for years and it catches fish from Florida to NY.  The past year I have tried the new 7" fluke and it fishes the same way as the super fluke.  I use a 7/0 Monster Gamakatsu hook, h action rod with a fast tip and 30 to 50 lb braid.  I don't get a lot of strikes with this big bait, but the ones that do hit you never need to check to see if they measure. :)

Just got in from fishing small farm pond with a Super Fluke. I used a 3/0 EWG hook and weightless. Spinning gear with 6lb Yo Zuri ultrasoft. Caught 5 small (1-1/2 lb) and a real nice chunky 4lber that cut up a lot :)! Really GREAT bait (it's my usual setup for flukes)...

In clear water, same set up but only 10lb leader and no swivel.

In grass, weeds,or dirty water no leader just tie braid directly to your wide gap hook.

 Good Fishn'

I say loose the swivel too.

I fish flukes on braid tied straight to a 5/0 EWG that's pushed through and skin hooked on the top.
