Great Smallmouth Trip to Maine

Featured Replies

Fished Maine the first week of June.  Caught many real nice smallmouth on spinnerbaits and various soft plastics up to 5 pounds 5 ounces.  Water temps ranged from 56 to 71 degrees.  Hit 16 lakes over the 9 day period.  Here are some photos from the week.

Cool, great looking fish.  I am going to Maine for a 4 day trip in July and cannot wait.  What part of Maine were you in?

You da MAN!

16 lakes in 9 days????????? man, I would love to take a trip like that. Nice Fish!!!!!!

Yes, we hit 16 lakes on the trip.  There are so many smaller lakes that surround Sebago Lake that it is possible to hit 2 or even 3 in a day.

In July, the Smallmouth will definitely be in deeper water.  Best of luck on your trip.

Wow, I'll say you caught some nice ones. That's a seasons worth of lunkers for me.  :)

You the maine man. ;D

I used to go up there when I was a kid.  Did you go to Crescent lake at all?  I used to love that place.

I only fished Crescent Lake once, I caught this funny looking green thing.

I remember catching a handful of very ordinary Smallmouth there as well.

Wow!

A little icing on the cake. That is truly a great picture.

8-)

Yeah I remember we used to get a lot of big largemouth up there.  Nice smallies too though.

Great pics Husky. It's been a fun first part of the season up here despite all the rain. I'm curious, if you were coming back up and could only bring one bait for some big Maine bronzebacks, what would it be?

Great trip, But that can't be Maine I thought we were only infested with dinks!! ;)

As long as the fish are in 10' of water or less, I would go with a soft jerkbait.  In deeper water, I would use a tube or spider grub.  Light line and long casts though are the key, I think.
