How to retrieve a tube

Featured Replies

I toss mine out into the garbage can and use no retrieve. All I get with tubes is frustrated.

Great thread there. I have tried everything, but that thread gave me more information than I have ever been able to gather on Tubes.

Bookmarked indeed.

Yesterday, on my first try, on my third cast, I caught my first largemouth on a tube, a three and a half pounder.

Now I'm an expert on tubes. ;D ;D ;D

The first sentence is true, the second not so true.

One thing I did learn, and anyone who is learning the tubes needs to know is this.  If you use an internal weight, a contact with a rock will feel like a bite if you are familiar with fishing hard head jigs.

The plastic of the tube absorbs the tink or tunk of the weight against a stone, making it feel similar to a bass mouthing a hard head jig.

I'm still experimenting with retrieves, trying to get a handle on what works best.  Even then, what works best today, might not tomorrow.

At the moment, the most important thing I learned is not to expect the tube to feel like a jig, as it makes contact with the bottom.

Actually I learned two things.  The second is that tubes work.  Now, to find out how well they can work.
