Big Phish

I fell in love with the senko

Recommended Posts

Rarely fished these before and never had luck when i did until this weekend. I just didn't see what was so special about em.  I started out jig fishing and had no luck, while a guy in a boat nearby was reelin em in every cast.  i asked what he had on, and sure enough it was a green pumpkin senko. So I tied one on. I went back and forth between green pumpkin/purple flake 5 inch YUMs and green pumpkin/black flake 5 inch yamamotos  yesterday and today and produced more big fish then i have ever before in 2 days.

I gotta say i am officially hOOked and I'm not lookin back 8-)

Glad you had success with them, they are a great bait. BUT there was a reason why they bit that bait well today, and why they didn't bite it well they previous time(s) you used it. That is the more important peice of the puzzle. They are an extreamly productive, versitle bait, that sometimes is all that they want, but don't fall into the trap of beeing a 1 trick pony, I know a few guys who it's Senko or nothing, yeah they catch lots of fish when the conditions make Senko fishing hot, but take that bait out of there hand and rarely are they productive fisherman.

I think it hadn't worked for me in the past was because i didn't give it enough of a chance.  after a couple casts i'd throw on a power bait or a creature bait because those were more in my bait comfort zone.

Try the Senko wacky rigged, too.

Works great!   ;)

Welcome from another Senko lover. Often they are the best bait around. As someone said they aren't the best bait in EVERY situation. I don't do really well with senkos in super deep water, in heavily stained or murky water, or in super shallow water with emerging weeds. But senkos are a bait you must carry at all times.

Glad you like them. Those stupid little lures have caught a gazillion bass and made heros out of zeros. I fish them a lot, but don't get locked up on them. A lure is nothing but a tool to search out and catch a fish. It may be great one day and suck the next. Keep your mind, ears, eyes, etc. open and let the fish tell you what is the best for the day. Otherwise you will have a boat load of them you rarely fish anymore.

Don't get locked up on colors either. It will hurt you in the long run.

Falling in love with anything other than a very wealthy, long legged woman with a 50,000 bass boat is a huge mistake.

I purchased my first few packs of Senko's this past weekend to see what all the fuss is about. I was wondering if you all could tell me what size and type hook your using to wacky rig them and any tips on how and where your fishing them would be much appreciated. Thanks.

A question on your Bpro Stickos - do they have a slot cut in them or is it just a solid bait?  I have some older ones that don't have the slot (for the hook).

Furbit -

I think the hook style and size is totally up to personal preference depending on size of the bait and condition.  I've been using 5 inch senkos with 1/0 open G gamagatzo (i'm sure i spelled that wrong)  and it works well.

Definitely the wrong hook...

3/0 or 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu Offset Worm Hook is

what I suggest. However, there are a number of

members who have a strong preference for straight

shanks. Either way, 1/0 is too small.
