Duo-Lock Snap Size?

Featured Replies

I've decided that I want to try using duo-lock snaps on my cranks this season without split rings. For the guys who use duo-lock snaps directly to lure, what size do you use? Here are the ones I am looking at (Luhr Jensen):

Should I get the smallest size possible? It is rated at 30lb test, and I will probably be throwing cranks on 30lb braid. I'm just afraid that if it is too small, the crank won't have enough room to wiggle and have the proper action. To put things into perspective, the 40lb test one is the exact size that Storm Wiggle Warts come with.

Thanks in advance for the input.

This is how I rig for all my crankbait & jerkbait fishing. I use the smallest for jerks and next size up for cranks. Use the smallest you can get away with.

have you tried berkley cross-lok snaps? they do not have any protruding end to grab grass like the duo-lock, if you worry about that kind of thing.

cross-loks come in black. I use sizes 1 and 3. years of use without any problems.

I use #3 rosco stainless steel snaps. You can get 100 duo-lock snaps for around $5-6 on the dreaded evilbay. I've never had one come undone, but I did add swivels to them.

#2 for peanut size baits.

#3 for most cranks.

#4 for big deep divers and small to medium swimbaits.

I use the smallest size with flouro carbon line, been doing that for years and have not had any problems.

I've always used the smallest I've seen, #1, which are rated for 20#, which is more than adequate for my needs. I attach them to either a line tie or a split ring, whatever way the lure is out of the box.

I get mine off Ebay too, they can be "Copies", work just as well.

I use 1/2" for freshwater and 1" for saltwater, I did have one come apart recently but I attribute that a duolock that was just worn out.

X2. Rosco or Sampo.

When you use snaps on jerk baits or cranks, do you take off the the circle ring off the bait?

Normally, yes, BUT you can leave the split ring on and attach the duo lock to the tow eye of the bait. The split ring will rattle around and make some noise while the bait is moving.

I've never thought of that. Great post Bilgerat! :)

I go with Boone. I find them in the saltwater section at Gander. You get 20 for $1.99.

I use #2(35Lb) and #3(50Lb). Prefer the #3 because I can open and close the snap easier with my fat fingers.
