A Reel Problem

Featured Replies

Quick question for you reel guys. I have a Shimano Curado E7 that has been acting strange lately. I haven't used it very much at all, it is pratically brand new. Yesterday I was fishing a jig on 12lb flouro and felt a thump. I set the hook pretty hard, felt normal, then as I'm trying to keep pressure on this bass I notice that it feels like I'm not gaining any line. I basically had to thumb the spool to pull and stop reeling, then reel on slack line to retrive the bait that has now been thrown because I couldn't reel him in!! Is this a drag issue? I'm perplexed.

Thanks,

3 things come to mind.

1. Use of braided lines with out a backer...Slippage.

2. Water on the drag pads that cause a slip, should have corrected by adding small amount of drag pressure...

3. To much oil in the reel and it has migrated to the drag pads. Correction clean and properly lube...

Good Luck & Tight Lines! :fishing1:

Is the drag tighten down..?

I may send it off and have it serviced by a Shimano dealer close to here. I've got it totally spooled with 12lb flouro and the drag wasn't locked down but it certainly was tight enough to handle that fish. It's frustrating though, that's the second "good one" I've lost because of this. Grrrrr. Thanks guys, I'll have someone that knows what they are doing look at it.

On that note, can someone give me info on a good repair/service tech for reels? Is there a BR sponsor that could inspect this reel for a reasonable cost?

Thanks guys/gals!

He's the repair sponsor here. Everyone speaks real highly of him.

I need to sent off my curado soon too...Kinda sounding a little funny. Not sure I'm happy with the E series of curados to be honest.I've been grabbing my Revo STX more lately.

Isn't this still under warranty?

Hi J Francho,

I'm thinking that it is, I'd have to dig around to find the paperwork. I may let DVT super tune it and upgrade the drag while they are at it.
