Found A New Hobby...

Featured Replies

...and am addicted. I have been buying dressed treble hooks from others for a while. Finally thought I'd give it a try and hopefully save a little $. Ordered the supplies and it was dropped off not too long ago. Got to tying one immediately. I have a whole new respect for those of you that tie flies, definitely must take a lot of patience.

The hook I dressed is kind of basic, all white. But now have some other colors on the way ;)

Looks good. Out of curiosity, what size hook is that?

Thanks. Just put up the last few I tied, finally got the hang of it. All have been Size 4 Owner ST-36s

Those look great. Just wait until your creativity starts to flow.

For example, I have dubbed this my "Patriot" pattern, inspired after one Fourth of July.

You take good 'ol red, white, and blue feathers:

I use it on poppers and inline spinners.

Yeah, I suck at painting.

Pretty soon you'll be incorporating flashabou and other materials. I find it fun and like lure building, therapeutic.

They look great Marc David. They certainly will change the whole profile of your bait.

I posted this in the tackle forum not to long ago, but here's one I've been using on a spook jr:

You can see the before in my avatar, the tail really changes the bait.

Keep up the good work, you'll find endless ideas.

A jig I tied last year which really produced for me:

Good luck and have fun tying!

Island, the Patriot is very cool

Jig, does the dressed treble affect the Spook's action?

Island, I just noticed you put the (I'm asuming you used) crystal flash on the outside where I tied mine on first (inside). I like the look you got there. I'll have to try that on future ties. Good job.

Nice, Marc, as skilled as you are a painter, you'll adjust in no time at all. It's all about detail and thread control. I just finished an order of trebles for a friend of mine. 140 dressed trebles in white, red, and orange; all with Crystal Flash or Flashabou. I used to average 1400 dozen annually. Now I'm closer to 500 or so. It's definitely an enjoyable hobby, and you can make some pretty decent money at it, too.

That jig is sick. The trebles have a slight temp, but that jig is sick. I want a dozen.
