I almost think he's got the 308 mixed with a 30-30 which is a 200yd at best rifle

For high power rifle the .270 is my favorite just because I shot my first buck with it. However, all my bucks and bear since then have been killed with my Win. M94 30-30 win. with Williams peeps sight. This combo is the perfect settup for the thick woods of Downeast Maine. It is light weight accurate and fast handling. I have never had to track a buck that I have shot with it. All have been bang flops or bang go a couple of steps and fall over. So I voted 30-30 win.

30-30 is a great brush gun just not the best long range gun like hunting open ranges and fields its great for woods where most shots are within 100yds unless u line up a good lane. Rifles arnt legal where I hunt localy unless u have a tc or pistol chambered in a high power. The dec is slowly moving rifle zones closer there only a county away this season rumor has it my area will be rifle by the 2012 season. I might use the mosin when that happens 7.62 x 54r what a beast

Hope you are joking on this, go check out a ballistics calculator with energy requirements for deer and you'll see that the .308 is well within the parameters to take deer comfortably out to 600 yards! Also when you state much better what do you mean specifically?

I looked at the ballistics and the only gun that stood out was my 7mm Wthby Mag. The rest of them are close to the same, you are right. For some reason, my .308 is so inconsitant at 150 yards and out that it would be impossible to shoot anything at that distance. In my case, my 30.06, 7mm, .243, and my brothers .270 are much more accurate.

Ive tried. Ive shot Hornandy, Winchester, Remington, heck, I even shot some crap that my brother ordered online. It seems to make no difference. Regardless of what I do, that gun will not shoot accurately.

And I have a feeling its not the shooter. I shoot all the time and it is nothing for me to shoot the same hole at 300 yards with the 7mm Wthby Mag or even at 500 yards with a .223, but this dang .308 cant group at 150.

But same hole at 300 that's impressive if u really do that my .243 will do 1 inch at 300 in near perfict conditions butt I'm shooting a 58gr vmax at 4000fps it doesn't like the wind much but its deadly on them ground hogs malong a buffet out of the soybean field

Is the barrel floated at all or is it tight to the stock?? You can put pieces of a butter bowl lid under the barrel lug to get it free floating and see if that makes any difference. I have a one hole 22-250 that a friend over tightened the barrel and it wouldn't hold a 6 inch group at 100 yards. Floated it as said above and it is the most accurate gun I own.

The .308 is a Remington, Im not sure what model. Its fairly old, I would say 40 years or so. I dont shoot it much because of its inaccuracy.

The 7mm is a Tikka and it is bad to the bone. Of course Im not shooting 50 rounds through the same hole, but at 300 yards my grouping will overlap one another and occasionally hit the exact same hole. It is ridiculous. I love that gun.

Ive never heard of this, but Im pretty sure its tight to the stock. Maybe I will try this in a month or so when I get em out to sight in again.

Might sound stupid but try cleaning that .308 with some sweets 7.62 clean that barrel really really good it being old might be fouled up it might look clean but you'd be surprised what sweets or some other paste style solvents will get out and your accuracy will come back.

It's going to be something simple like the barrel isn't floating properly, or the muzzle isn't crowned properly. Take it to a gunsmith when you can. The money spent there will be well worth it.

.308 and 7MM-08 will kill anything North America has to offer. .308 being my favorite.

Yeah, it doesnt happen often, but as much as we shoot it, it does occur. The .223 is really accurate up to about 600 yards. I got a 24x scope on it and I can hit the speed limit sign on the road from my house, which is about 1/2 a mile .

I did catch the woods on fire once shooting tracers through it too. The box said it was impossible to start a fire, but we sure proved them wrong.

Yeah def possible we catch the lanes at Ft. Drum onfire almost every time we qual. And the 223(5.56) is a good rnd we shoot our m4 on the saw range at 800meters all the time with just a 4x acog

Well I hunted with a 30-30 for many years but as my screenname would attest, I'm a bit very partial to the 7mm-08. I prefer short actions and I love the .308 family from the .243 on up to the .358.
