ITS BUZZBAITN TIME-CAVITRON

Featured Replies

Well I finally went out fishing for a while with my buddy. Started out at about 5pm. Nice night and  a bite warm. I have always governed the use of buzzbaiting to start when the fireflies are out. Its mid June and I have probibly had the coolest spring that I can remember. Fireflies were nearly non existant .Temps have rarely gotten out of the low 70's/Well out we went  we tarted some spinner baiting + some Jiggn-some new baits(HINT) as it started to get dark I looked over in this field and started to see some twinkling. A familiar smile came to my face as it has since I was a kid. I told my buddy "ITS TIME" He looked at me and said "what the heck are you talking about". As I explained it to him I said "watch and Learn". I put on a black and gold Cavitron. Took a couple of casts around some weeds-nada--I went to the stumps took a cast nothing-second cast - a 3 lbr slurped it down. We ended going through this area with some stumps and catching about 15 fish between us in an hour. There were no giants but man was it a good time.So guys its time to do some buzzbaiting. look for the fireflies and just go fishing. Its my favorite way to catch em-

Yup, it is that time again. I agree, the Cavitron is a great buzzbait, I have quite a few of 'em. Thing is, I haven't tied on ANY buzzbait since I discovered the Rage shad. I like the black neon color best, and it doesn't even matter time of day or night  with that bait... it's a killer topwater alternative! I now get more top water blow ups than ever.

They all have their applications. I have used them also.Great products by Big O. I give credit where credit is due. There is just something about that buzzbait fishing that is explosive. If it puts fish in the boat-I USE IT!!!!

I use both the cavitron buzzbaits and the rage shad, they both work awesome.

I can't wait to use the ones i brought over the winter up here.

I've been catching both bass and pike on buzzbaits for over a month now. I know just what you mean Bobby.

I own about 30 buzzbaits and all but a handful of them are Cavitrons. Cavitrons really are the best buzzbaits out there, trust me. I do like Lunker lures, terminators, Strike King elites, accent hi riders, and a few others, but cavitrons get most of the use from me. Some of my biggest bass on average come on buzzbaits, though dinks will nail them too.

Once I fished the Cavitron, I gave my entire collection of buzzbaits away.

As far as I'm concerned, the Cavitron is THE BOMB! I have a range

of colors in both the 1/4 oz and 3/8 oz models. My favorite is 3/8 oz Black

on Black.

BTW, Here's a tip: When the Cavitron gets a pounding, bend it back into

shape. Even though it may still look "beat up", it's not.  "Old" Cavitrons

are just as productive as new lures, maybe even better!

8-)

"ITS TIME"

Seriously, are you in Canada or something? ...lol We have water temps in the 90's already and another forecast today of 105.

My buzzbait "time" begins in early March on non-powerplant lakes. (and goes all winter on powerplant lakes)

Also, I'll ask again...  this will be my annual request  ;D any chance I'll see a 1/2 oz. cavitron this year?

Yeah, squeeze a 1/8 oz split shot on the hook shank!

;D ;D ;D

Hey Bobby-

Any chance you'll be putting them on sale any time soon?

Cavitron rocks!!   8-)

i own other buzzbaits but advice from here steered me to buy a couple Cavitrons.  have had success and lov'em.

they are the best.  seem to have a longer shank to avoid fish hitting the blade allows for better hook up ratio.  also can run them real slow or fast.  very versatile.

will be putting on the BUZZZZ

and.... the 'ol black jitterbug  :)

Our water here in NJ is just in the 70's. It is the coolest Spring ever. Water temp in the pool today was 72. Down south they said water is in the 90's=you can keep that. LOL

  • Super User

I guess that's a "no" on the 1/2 oz. baits.  ...lol

RW,

I was tempted to get a pack of those squeeze on bullet weights...  to snug one up to the head.

Flech. I have been throwing the 3/8 for years. What do you find you can do with the 1/2 that ya cant do with the 3/8. Its certainly not castability-that thing casts 40 yards easily. The blades are certainly large enough-larger than most 1/2oz. It has plenty of weight to use for any application. If i could find a real legit reason to make  a 1/2 you know i am there.  I do have a sample of a 3/4 that I started for Musky

Bobby,

mostly it's preference but I built a dedicated rod specifically to throw 1/2 oz (lunker lures), since that was all I used. I fish buzzbaits pretty fast and "twitch" them rather forcefully, so I like the heavier weight to keep it running true and hook down. I rarely fish them slow. Also, fishing around here with the bluffs and narrow areas there is always a good bit of wind funneling down.

I have a couple of the 3/8 cavitrons... they are great baits, no doubt, but just a little light for what I do.

Just curious, does the 3/4 have even a bigger blade? (the 3/8 blade is plenty for a 1/2.)

Thanks for your interest,

Keith

Bobby,

I am looking into getting some cavitrons, what blade color would you suggest? Also,  this may be a dumb question but on your megastrike, do you only put that on your plastics, or is there anything else you can put it on?

Thanks

that thing casts 40 yards easily.

Ok 30-40 yards. as long as the wind isnt in your face blowing 15 -20.. On a 7ft  with a baitcaster I can jack the heck out of throwing that bait . There is a certain way I throw it to maximaze the dustance. Technique and conditions. OKIE as far as colors and blades.Keep it simple-Slight ripple on the water-1/4 oz-with some chop I throw the 3/8-Colors Black for lower light conditios-white ya can throw all day log-chartreuse/w white-stained water -ghost minnow -clear water.

Would you go with the bleeding bait blades? Also, like i said it may be a dumb question. But is megastrike only used on soft plastics, or do you use it on any other baits?

The red blades I use in the clearer waters.Red of course is the first color of the color spectrum to disappear under certain light penetrations and water claritys. To use them in real stained water or muddy water or even lower light conditions -  it  basically goes undetected. They see a silhouette. That's all. In clearer water they can see the deep red of the blades. I look at them going away from me in clear water (while filming and diving) it looks like what I call the flared gill effect. Its a focal point that bass hit when bait fish panic.Of course they focus on the eyes also. research actually show that the shads spots are moving further back on the bodies through evolution-what ichthyologist believe the reason for this is-  it - causes predator fish to miss the prey more often. As for the megaStrike -I put it on everything I throw.

Thanks for that information.  I fish murky water most of the time so would you say go with the gold blades?

  • Author

Stay with the gold blades-One of our biggest sellers is the Black On Black- Great for night and low light fishing conditions

Alright, thanks for the help Bobby, I will be making a purchase from you soon
