gonna start tieing some jigs for next coldwater period/prespawn and was wondering whats your favorite type of hair to use. I found a nice black squirrel tail in my fly fishing materials. How does that compare to say deer or rabbit etc.

I dont tie, but do fish hair jigs a lot. I've found I like to fish deer hair the best. Maibou a close second and then rabbit and craft hair.

craft hair Its better then deer, squirrel, etc imo.

Don't be afraid to try weird colors either. Smallmouth like strange combos like pink/purple, brown/purple etc.......Colors you normally would not use for largemouth..........Al

I use the craft hair too. And Al is right about the weird colors. Bright Blue and Pink are my best two colors. Yellow is also very good.

Bear hair works the best for cold water I just wish I could get it in another color besides black.
