Lets talk buzz baits

Featured Replies

The last few afternoons that I have been out I have thrown a buzzbait out when the sun goes down.

The one I have been using is a small Strike King (not sure of the exact model). What are some of the ones you guys use?

    An all black Lunker Lure.

Nothin' to talk about: Cavitron Buzzbaits are THE BOMB!

They produce a unique chirping sound, tremendous bubble trail,

come up immediately and can be fished slower than any other.

This is the perfect buzzbait. I prefer the Cavitron 3/8 oz, black

on black.

Cavitrons.

Over rated and over priced in my opinion. Caught just as many on a Walmart Strike King out of the box. Average angler here, fish tournies and get out pretty often. Have fished a few Cavitrons, and no noticable difference in catch rates. They both catch fish, but for the ability to but 2 for the price of one, Strike Kings at Walmart get my vote. I am sure unpopular, but when you're on a budget...if it catches bass most times out...then it's the bait for me. I use the Chartreuse and Red bleeder hook, or the white. I have never had a problem with my reels getting the bait to run smooth, or at a good speed. Let all the haters join in...it's cool. Whatever you have confidence in, is what YOU should be throwing.

Don't buy into the Cavitron hype.  Lord knows I wasted enough money because of the hype here.  Of the five that I bought, none of them would run upright and all required an extremely fast retrieve to even get a wake, never mind a buzz.  If I wanted something that ran sub-surface, I would have saved my money and fished a spinnerbait.

Strike King, Booyah, etc. etc.  I've grown partial to the various Booyah buzzers over the last couple of years.

I prefer the double bladed style and believe it or not BPS 4X4 is a great bait. Strike Kings Double Take and Booyahs Bi-You are also good. Best ever were Roland Martins Double Buzzer by Blue Fox. I still have about 10 of them left, Cavitrons are O.K., but the claim of slowest would have to go to a double blade bait by far IMHO.

Well, if you want to pursue it a little further, contact Bobby via PM

or e-mail. For you to have five "defective" when no one else has

mentioned a problem is odd, don't you think? Maybe Bobby will

give you some specific instructions on what needs to be done to

fix the problem with the Cavitron you have. Otherwise, I'm sure

he will replace them for you at no charge. I suspect he might also

include an extra or two!

If you like, I will be glad to help you with this, just drop me a PM.

Original lunker lure here.  Why change when the original still outfishes the rest.   ;)

SK Buzzking JR for me. The 5/16th triple wing with a gama trailer hook.

Rises faster and can run slower than any other buzzbait i have used. Including cavitrons.

I've been interested in these for some time now.  The major problem that I have with them is figuring out how to store them!  I use a spinnerbait binder to hold my buzzbaits and spinnerbaits and they won't fit in there.  I fish from shore so tackle that is easy to pack up and carry is critical.

Are these really worth the hassle of finding out how to carry them around?

Here is what I FINALLY settled on for spinnerbaits and buzzbaits:

FTO Wallets.

One tip: make sure the skirts are pointed toward the zipper side, and smooth them down before loading them in the wallet. otherwise, the deeper Plano boxes, like the 7080 works OK.

I use manns and strike kings no probs with either i do bend the body down some for better hookups

I have a bunch of spinnerbaits but none that have that lovely brassy metallic squeal I grew so fond of in one of the baits I lost.  Unfortunately, I can't remember what brand/model it was.  (Don't know if the bass really like it better but in my minds-eye, it seemed to).  Anyway, does anyone know of a buzzbait that makes a really nice brassy squealing sound?
