Wake Baits?

Featured Replies

did a search and didn't find anything on this.

What experience do you guys have with wake baits? I've heard good stuff but want real world feedback.

I recently bought a Cabelas june frog, Mann's elite waker and Baby waker, and a Lucky Craft mini ssr(5.99 at cabelas in Maine, awesome deal!)

I tied on the june frog just to see the action the other day and liked it a lot.

Any thoughts?

I have had alot of success on the Manns Elite Wakers...and just got an Ima Roumba which has an amazingly wide wobble.  Good alternative to a topwater and can produce just about anytime of day.

Wakebaits work great.  The LC you mentioned has a great action.  I want to try some of the RC jointed baits.  They are on sale at BPS for under $10.

My favorite wakebait is the Jackall Cherry Zero Footer.  It's a crank but doesn't dive much and will work as a wakebait when retrieve slowly.  It has a very wide action and generates a nice wake.  As mentioned, the Ima Roumba is stellar.  If you close your eyes, you'll swear that Roumba is a fighting fish.

thanks for the input guys. hopefully i get a chance to try these this weekend. I want to convince myself before I buy $15 baits.

The roumba and zero footer look impressive.

How are you working these?  Constant retrieve or pausing?

just started using them, and haven't had much time at that. So far a steady retrieve, but i guess that's another good question for the forum.

I do both.  I get as many hits on a steady retrieve as a I do with pauses.

Mann's Elite Wakers, my first year with them, great results

Cabelas June Bug: I realized when I put it on, NO COMPETITION WITH THE JITTERBUG, go to a 5/8 ounce Jitterbug ( my favorite is Black)

Walking the dog bait of your choice, also good results

I am sooner or later going to try a MS Slammer type bait , as soon as I hear from LBH, that is!

Here is one , with a Manns still in it's mouth THANKS FOR THAT BAIT MICRO:

Glad it worked for you!

I was looking at wake baits as well.  I need a good topwater bait but was thinking about getting a wake bait instead.  Will this be an ok alternative for a topwater like a spook?

Those RC jointed baits are nice. My fishing buddy does well with them.

I love wake baits! They produce even in the middle of day for me.

Try the shimano triple impact 105 or 120, you won't regret it......

i've had success with the Bandit Footloose, and although i haven't caught any fish on them yet (haven't fished them much), rapala DT 01's have a really wide wobble and should do pretty well...

I really like the looks of that bait.

I like to be counted as another fan of tthe Shimano Triple Impact. The cool thing about this bait is that it can be used as wake bait or you can rip it as a prop bait, sometimes I do both in the same cast. It's also caught some good ones for me during the rain. I also like the Xcalibur Wake crank, Jackall Cherry Zero footer, Lucky Craft RC wake bait as well. This is definetely a bait class that has put a lot of fish in the boat the last couple of years is a great alternative when you to try to get reaction strikes in shallow weed beds.

I have been wanting to try the Mann's elite wakers for a while. I had one in my hand but put it back. What colors do you guys recommend for day/night fishing?
