Yozuri Hybrid Breaking At Knot

Featured Replies

I tried yozuri hybrid I 6lb test for clear water creek smallmouth and had the line break at the knot multiple times. Wondering what knot people are using with this line and if anyone has had the same problem.

did you make sure to wet your knot before you cinch it down? I'm a big fan of yozuri hybrid and use it for almost every technique except for topwater. Knots I use are palomar, san diego jam, and the improved clinch knot. Never had a problem with the knot as long as you cinch it down. Hope this helps you.

I use a lot of 6lb YZ Ultra-Soft. I use either palomar or improved clinch knots and I retie often. I've caught (as of tonight) 498 fish up to 5 pounds on YZ6 so far this year with only 1 knot problem. I was fishing a 5" grub on a 1/0 EWG with a leader and swivel (3 knots) and had the knot from the mainline to the swivel fail - my fault as I got lazy and didn't retie that knot as frequently as the knot from the leader to hook. On a hookset, that top knot failed and I lost the fish...

I only use mono or copoly for 2 applications, I'm not fussy on brand. At present I use 12# original stren on my cuda outfit and 20# pline floroclear on my conventional trolling/drift offshore outfit, let's just say the fish get sizable. Only knot I use is an ordinary clinch knot, I may get cut off, but knots always hold and line doesn't break, providing the knot is tied correctly and the line is in good condition.

Everything else is braid only 15 or 20#, again nothing but an ordinary clinch and as loop knot to the lure. To be honest everyone I see in the brine does pretty much the same as me. I do nothing different in freshwater except use lighter lines, in fact I've had the same leader with the same knot on a few rigs that get used often without any failure. I don't even know how to tie a palomar and really have no use for it.

Trilene Knot with spit...

I guess it was just bad tying on my part. I'm not giving up on the line yet though, everything else about it preformed well. I usually use braid on all my spinning outfits but wanted to go with something clear.

Make sure you wet the knot before cinching it down. B)

I use Yo-Zuri 6# ultra-soft 90% of the time and have no problems...Always with a wetted, Palomar knot. 5 years of success, 100 days a year.

I've been using the 6# Hybrid on spinning tackle for two years now, and yesterday was the first time I've broken it off. I don't think it broke at the knot either. There may have been a nick somewhere. The stuff is tough as heck.

I use the Improved Clinch knot, always lube up knots with a good amount of spit, and I take my time when tightening down the knot. Then I give it a good, hard tug so that it will break if the knot didn't come together right. I think a flawed Improved Clinch knot will break at about 50% of it's rated breaking strength, so I keep that in mind when yanking on it. Doing this gives me a little cut on my pointer and pinkie fingers once in a while, but it saves me the headache of lost lures and fish.

not sure the name of this knot, neither is Shaw apparently, but it works for me. Give it a try. I also use yo-zuri hybrid ultrasoft #6.

Awhile back I started using the Pitzen (or 16/20) for both types I'm using. Trilene Big Game and Y-Z ultra (8lb./12lb.).

Easy to tie and I've had no problems at all, use lots of spit and check after tightening to ensure it's not curly-Q'd (that equals heat).

Ive always called that a 3 tag knot and its what I use for FC lines, it WILL slip if used with braided lines but for FC and mono its a AWESOME knot.

In the years I've been using YZ Hybrid, I've only have one break off - lifting a big blue catfish over the side that weighed WAY in excess of the test of the line. Otherwise, it's the only line I've never had a break off on. I always use a palomar knot.
