Braid

Featured Replies

Guys, I have some questions on fishing with braid. How visible in the water is it. I fish South Alabama and Mississippi rivers and lakes. We dont have "clear water", its stained. I catch most of my fish on T-Rigs and jigs. I usually use Mono, but how would braid work in this application. Can you only use braid when fishing heavy structure, so it blends with the structure? Also, What applications require a leader?

Thank yall

i use braid all the time.it makes no difference if fish see your line.my buddy was using a flouro leader of 8 lb test and i was using straight 20 lb sufix 832 and we both caught the same amount of fish intough conditions.i have fished numerous times with guys using flouro and there is no difference even in clear water.if a GUY IS KICKING YOUR BUTT IT'S NOT CAUSE HE'S USING FLOURO.

I would agree with the above assessment of florocarbon, biggest waste of time, money and effort I have ever seen, no point at for using it in dirty water.

I believe line diameter has more affect than color/visibility. A leader is important in situations where line fray is a concern like around the zebra mussels we have up here. Leaders also make it easier if you want to break off rather than fight with a cheap lead head etc.

hey man i fish Mississippi's mudhole lakes and rivers. its funny, i was talkin with my fishing partner last night about how arkansas and alabama have more rocks (being surrounded by the Ozarks on one side and the remnants of the Apps on the other) and mississippi is in between so we just get the run off from either direction resulting in a mudhole. lol It's fertile as can be but it's muddy. Tying straight to braid is all good in the hood. It's also ideal for your jigs and plastics given the exceptional sensitivity. Also, fine tune your drag a bit more cause it don't stretch much if any
