Gonna try heavy jig need help

Featured Replies

I love to fish deep water for smallies (Dale) and carolina rigs for lm this weekend I want to try deep water heavy jigs any suggestions size /color/rattle/line /etc thanks

What kind of rod do you have and what depth? "Deep" is relative.

You can't go wrong with a black and blue jig, and I honestly don't really focus on rattles too much unless the water is murky.

In addition to black & blue, I like green on green

and brown on brown. If you are looking for a new

jig to try, pick up a few Evolution e2 jigs:

Thanks how about braid versus fluor ? this water is green slightly off color fishing 18'-28' ledges known for big bass I use a feathercast 7'9" heavy action with a quantum burner for my carolina rig will probably stick with that

Black with blue, chart,or purple. Brown with green, black, purple. Im sure there is a lot of line to use, I am not a big time jig person, I fish them very little but I have done fine with 20# mono. Braid is the best I believe.

For those depths, I'd go 1/2+ ounce jig.

I like 40-65 pound braid.  If the water is clear and there isn't a lot of heavy structure, I add a fluoro leader.

I would go 3/4-1oz.  browns and blacks are my favorite colors.
