I'd like to write a book that talks about my 12 years of bass fishing, but what topics/aspects should I write about? i'm good at Jig fishing, Topwater, finesse, and so/so with spinnerbaiting..... Any ideas?

I'd write personal fishing stories. The good , the bad, and the ugly. I'd stay away from educational if you're not a pro or have good fishing credentials.

Yea, That's I good idea. I have stories from my years of recreational fishing as well as the 20 or so tournament's I've entered.

Read any of the Trout Fishing books by John Geirach ("Even Brook Trout Get the Blues" and "Sex Death and Fly Fishing"). You don't have to be a Trout guy to laugh, his style and the stories he tells are way more readable and interesting than a pure "how to" and "tips and tricks", this will diversify you readership potential therefore increase your publishing potential.

My Brother has written a couple books and for several magazines (and modeled in this year's Orvis and Patagonia catalogues) this is what he tries to do.

Start small and sell cheap, if you got a good seller you can build off that with a 'name' in the book business

The first rule of writing is write what you know. Do you have the grammar and story telling skills needed to do that? Can you write what you know in a way that other folks want read it? Who is your audience? What do you offer that hasn't already been done a hundred times by people with much more impressive resumes? Why would I buy your book on spinnerbait fishing when I can buy spinnerbait instructional material from KVD? Or finesse fishing from Mike Iaconelli?

I think if writing is what you want to do, then you absolutely should do it. Writers write. Whether it sells or not is a very different thing. Good luck.

Find a topic that hasn't already been covered, or approach something in a completely different way, or target a different audience. Create your own success by giving the readers something they haven't seen a million times.

Write about all of the techniques you're proficient in. Also write about personal experiences with weather, patterns, and all that good stuff. You could also add personal stories and experiences. Talk about some things you enjoy about bass fishing, and try to keep interest. In my opinion, there aren't enough fishing books out there, especially not enough bass fishing books.

That's a big under taking for a 15 yr. old. Good luck with your endeavor.
