PO'd I fell for Megabass...

Featured Replies

About two years since I was into the Vision 110 and Flap Slap, I realize I was lying to myself about how "great" they were. I wasted a lot of my money:

Vision: I own and have owned several Vision 110's, and the truth is that they are not very good fish catchers. The hooks suck; they bend so easily! They sink instead of suspend, in this unnatural, awkward diagonal position. They also screw up on a fast retrieve. The barbless center hook was a bad idea. What a waste. The pointer is way better.

Flap Slap: Used to own a couple. They really are just your run of the mill shallow flat crank. So I'm paying that much for one tungsten weight in its body, and the cool paint job? Don't forget the goofy "squinty eye" on the otherside. Is that eye supposed to help get strikes? The hooks are the same weak ones that are on the 110. The website details, "that when jerked this lure flaps and slaps". It looks terrible when fished with a jerking action, and I've only caught fish on it with a steady retrieve, never while jerkbaiting it.

The 110 and flap slap are why I don't like TackleTour.com. Those guys are obsessed with Megabass, so they always give them great reviews, even if the product is not so great. Those are the two most overpriced and over-rated lures ever IMO.

Did you catch fish with them?

I don't currently own any visions but I have fished them before. They definitely do catch fish but I wasn't overly impressed with them. I prefer my pointers as well

I agree 110s are over rated. But they sure are pretty.

I haven't justified money on the 110s, or any of the crazy $50 stuff... But I love their cranks - The Griffon is a fish catching monster, the Cyclone is a close second, and I love the Type-X frog... I don't throw them as much as I should, but those three really produce for me.  I was thinking about a pop max, but can't justify the money on a popper - a lure I rarely use...

I've bought one Megabass lure, an XJF-100. On the second fish it caught, the metal tail piece broke off. Haven't considered buying another Megabass since.

Hmmm...I have several Megabass Vision 110's and have caught a lot of fish on them.  One lure in particular has well has over 100 smallmouth on it and it is still going strong (though, it is a little beat up).  I figure I paid $15 for it (off of eBay) and so far I am at 15 cents a fish.  This is a more cost effective lure than a Senko.

I dont fish smallmouth so I have no comment.

Wah wah wah, crybaby!!!!  :P

I hear you, though.  BTW, Visions aren't supposed to suspend.  I feel the same way about other lures.  X-Raps are one that comes to mind.  I bought a few, caught the hell out of fish - big fish too - so I went out and bought a ton more, in just a few colors.  To my dismay, not all them are alike.  In fact, their behavior is very variable, nothing like the consistency you see with a Pointer, Flash Minnow, or Vision.  Jezz, even the cheapo Smithwicks are more consistent.

You also have to realize that TT is as much about collecting unusual or rare gear as it is about fishing.  I mean, its not called BassResource, LOL....

;D

uhh OK? I'm pretty sure all Vision 110's are made the same... or paying 30 bucks means nothing to them. My point is that me and you paid that much for nothing more than a tungsten slider weight, nice finish, poor hooks, "cool looking" design, and bad action. Whoever bought the 110 is a sucker, and apparently I'm one of them. It sucks. I should have known with the flap slap...

Try a Team Daiwa Dartist. I allow them to sit in the same box as my Pointers. That's saying a lot. :P

Thats funny. I don't think you know who you're talking to. lol, but really I am an experienced bass fisherman, and these two Megabass products really do suck. Have you fished them?

looks good... don't want to fall for looks good again though. (just kidding). I should try it.

I bought a few of the Trick Darters which is a smaller profile jerk than the 110 and I was very pleased with the performance of this bait, I only have 1 Vision 110 and for whatever reason I haven't thrown it very much. I have a few of the Griffon's, but I prefer the RC cranks by Lucky Craft with their 0.5 bait being similiar in size. I do have one of their poppers, good bait but my favorite would be either the Yellow Magic or Excalibur Zell Pop which I think is a copy of the Yellow Magic.

Yes, I have been using the Vision 110s for about 7 years.

Yeah. You didn't get the sarcasm in the "do you know who you're talking to" statement. I threw a little "lol" in there to give you the hint. Maybe Pantera has rotted your brain. But, that long you have been fishing them? Great job looking online to see when they first came out, TT.com really helped you out with their 2002 model! That is great! Seriously, if you are trying to give me some argument, then make a point. Do you think the Vision 110 is better that a Pointer 100? Amuse me Pantera. GREAT BAND THOUGH!

Yeah, I had to look on line to see when they were released and came up with the wrong answer.  They have been available in the States at least 10 years, if not longer.

Actually the Pantera referred to in my screen name is the Evergreen Pantera TXFC-62M.  Conversation done.  Amuse yourself.

uh no, not over. You still have not said what you feel about the bait, and if it is worth thirty dollars. Is the Vision 110 a better fish catcher than the Pointer? Please contribute to the conversation, and not give irrelevant information. Thanks Pantera.

Where did you buy them that you paid $30 for them?  TW sells them for $25. You can find them for less.  There are two versions, one called "suspend," which doesn't actually suspend, and the other is a called "Hi Floater."  I've only used the former.

They do best for me in cold water, with very light rod input.  Truth be told, they aren't my favorite bait for early spring - that distinction is held for the LC FLash Minnow, based simply by results in my local water.  I guess I don't understand the beef with them, if they caught fish, and all behave consistently.

The hook thing, well that may have more to do with gear.  Thinner hooks penetrate easier, but they do bend.  Oddly, I've bent more hooks on my big Sammys than any other bait.  They get replaced with Owner Stingers.

I don't have a ton of MB stuff, but I have enough to know they work, and I certainly don't feel ripped off, LOL.  In fact, I think all my LC, MB, LC, Deps (even those stupid looking Basyriskis), OSP, Zappu, Keitech, and what ever else is floating in my bags was all worth it.

You want to talk about ripoff soft plastics?  LOL, I have a list.  BTW, if you took some decent pictures of your MB stuff you don't like anymore, you can probably recover a good portion of your expense selling in the Flea Market here.

For me they are. Have you tried MSS, Wagin Hasu or Table Rock Shad yet ?? As for the Flap Slap try IL Serious,Spook Killer,Frozen Tequila,TRS or Jekyll and Hyde. I use Megabass all the time and find myself using Cyclone's, Griffon Zero's, Pop Max's and Deep X's as well as the 110 and Flap Slap. One thing though I have never paid 30.00 for any Megabass lure I own......
