Shimano Gurus...question

Featured Replies

I am looking at replacing a reel I lost recently plus one of my Revo's is acting up. Anyway, I am looking for some thoughts on the Curado 50E, I have never owned a Shimano casting reel. I am wondering what the size is compared to a Revo? I will be using it for light t-rigged worms, senkos, weightless flukes most likely with 10-12lb fluoro on a 7'3" Medium rod, is this a suitable reel for these applications? In general how does the reel perform? I use Revo S-L's and a Daiwa Viento for comparison. Any info to help me make this decision is much appreciated.

Thanks

Cliff

P.S. I will be paying $120 for the reel new, if you think there is a better reel in that price range please let me know!

Well that shot down my Calcutta suggestion then. I have had great experiences with the 50e. As I have never used or really looked at revo's I can't really give a comparison between the two. The ones I had worked great and casted very smoothly. They are durable and seem to be able to withstand any abuse I unintentionally direct at them. I think it will work good for the techniques you have mentioned. I still think you should go with a Calcutta. However, I believe you will really like the curado. plus at that price its gonna be hard to beat it.

Oh and be careful, I hear those Shimano reels can really be addicting. ;)

Thanks for the info...Calcutta is out of my range for a combo, let alone just a reel!! Anyone else?

Thanks

Cliff

I have a 50e that I bought a couple months ago. Its one heck of a reel for that price. Its gonna be hard to beat. The only other reel that I would suggest looking at is the Pflueger Patriarch at TW for 109.99. Its a beast! You cant really go wrong either way though.

The Curado 50 profile is probably closer to that of a Premier. They excel at throwing light baits due to the light spool. That clearance price is an awsome deal. I just got a 201E for myself. I go with spinning tackle for lighter stuff. The Curado might be a little more refined but over all performance is great with both reels. As for the Revo that's acting up, send it in if you want and I'll get it going again. If you want to DIY email me some inf and I'll try to hepl you out.

Red, sign up for the American Legacy newsletter and get the $25 off code. 51's are $100, 50's are $115.

Red, I'll be honest with you man, I'm a Daiwa man through and through now after getting a Zillion. But, I have to say, the 50e is by far one of my favorite reels I've ever had. It's one that I'll never get rid of, unless someone gives me a free Core 50MG.

edit: which is highly unlikely..

The curado 50e is a great little reel. I throw small topwaters and jerkbaits with mine and it cast them a mile.

Thanks for all the info guys, but I am going to have to skip it. Seems someone decided they needed my trolling motor battery more than I do, got home from work just now and it is gone!

Got a new battery charging now and it will be brought in tonight. Also got a length of chain and a pad lock and locked the motor and boat to my truck. If someone wants all that at least they are going to have to work for it.

Man that sucks  I lost all my tackle once and my boat another time. Thankfully I wasn't very old when I lost my gear and didn't have much and the boat was only a plastic 2 man but it was my first boat and I'd scrapped up every bit of change I had to buy it for 50 bucks, hurt pretty bad to lose it. :( If I ever caught someone trying to steal anything out of my boat not only would they not be getting anything from my boat but they'd probably need a new pair of pants after they heard my 12 gauge racking  I have no tolerance for a thief. I don't make enough money to be able to afford buying new stuff just because someone else didn't want to pay for it.

This is sort of sadistic but I think I'd "love" to catch someone stealing my stuff (or attempting to). I chain and padlock my ladders and tools to my truck and remove anything from my boat that is not nailed down while in my yard. But just once, just one time, I'd like to run across someone tampering with my stuff and they not know I was within grabbing distance of them. I wouldn't need a shotgun.....and they'd need medical assistance soon after. I despise thieves!
