Basketball Lock Out

Recommended Posts

I don't know how many of you guys are professional basketball fans. I am not a fan until the championship playoffs or the last five minutes of a regular season game if I catch the game on TV when flipping among the various channels.

My team is the Boston Celtics although I will follow the New Orleans Hornets (wish they would change that name to something more New Orleans)as that is my hometown team.

What has me upset is the financial impact the current labor negotiations are having on those individuals outside of the game itself who make their living from professional basketball.

The economy is not that good and to add the lost preseason and first 100 games is a hard financial hit to the little guy.

Yes, I know there will be a resolution and the remaining games will be played, but every game lost is gone forever and the small merchants, resturants and others depending on the NBA season will be lost in the shuffle and never recoup their monetary losses.

The real problem is "who cares about professional basketball anyway?" Baseball damaged itself for years after its strike and it is my thought that professional basketball could be injuring itself for many years unless there is a fast resolution.

So what do you guys think??? :)

I understand the concern and feel for the people who make their living 'around' the game but as far as the lockout goes, I think it's awesome. Is it possible that it lasts forever? :D

The lockouts for both Football, Basketball only solidify my feeling that ALL professional sports is about nothing more than MONEY.... Gone are the days when players actually played for the love of the game. Today, it is about how well do I need to play to get paid? Not, lets play to win...

Probably the reason I coach youth sports and would rather watch a high school baseball game than most professional sporting events.

I cannot express how sickened I am at the amount of money these athletes pull in. No human is worth that much money.. Pay a teacher, or a doctor, or a firefighter/policeofficer.......

I really quit caring about any of them when the NFL played the season with pick up games.

I don't know how much it will take to finally satisfy the players or owners, and I don't care. The heck with anyone affiliated with the game. In the end, it's the fans that take the hit.

Neither the players nor the owners really give a hoot about the fans other than separating them from as much money as possible.

I know those that live and die by professional sports will be devastated, but if they all shut down tomorrow, it wouldn't change the world or our lives by a bucket of spit.

What about those who are not athletes or owners who depend on these games to make a living? When folks start spending the money they spent on attending games elsewhere, it will merely shift the jobs to a different market.

Could care less about NBA basketball but feel bad about the working people who will be without their jobs because of the strike.

My feelings exactly! I stopped caring about the NBA years and years ago, when it seemed every player and owner was going to jail for one thing or another. It honestly wouldn't bother me one bit if the NBA collapsed and went away.

I love watching B ball, but if they don't play I'll manage fine. I always feel for businesses and employees that rely on any entity like sporting events, and strikes against large corporations where the average Joe is unable to earn a living.

I will agree that the ONLY reason I WILL care is the thousands of people who will be out of work, down in sales, or lose their business because they are directly connected to this business. There are hundreds of mom and pop bars etc who make their yearly nut during the season and are empty in the off season.

After Larry Bird retired the NBA was dead to me.

I'm shocked that California doesn't seem to care. I would have though that there were easily enough Laker homers to turn the vote.

I'm a huge OKC Thunder fan, so I'm bummed to not see them not have a full season to pick up right where they left off. However, I'm good with just football and college basketball as long as the NBA is back after the Superbowl. Christmas day will have football this year, so I won't mind not having the NBA on in the background.
