Hi everyone, so I previously posted about me getting ready to attend my first college fishing tournament. I was super excited because we were on the fish to win the tournament. It was a great morning like any other. Wake up, drink coffee and that morning rush on the way to the lake while listening to my favorite music. My friend and I talked about everything that was ahead of us that day. The roads were a little wet but I paid no attention to it. I noticed that we had been behind a car for about 15 minutes that insisted on going 10 miles under the speed limit. I calmly waited for my chance to pass the car. The first passing lane I came to just happened to be on a downward hill. I felt that I only had a little time to pass so I punched the accelerator. Then.... No traction from my back tires as I was headed strait for the car in front of me. So I turned the wheel to gain control of the run away truck. the truck spun radically around and I still had no control...... I remember the first flip and then all I remember is waking up on the ground, roughly between 30 and 40 yards from where my truck landed. I woke up to my friend yelling my name. I'm not sure how long I was out for but the car in front of us left us there to die, so we had to flag down someone and luckily an off duty police officer was passing by. I am so greatfull to just be alive and well much less to be in the shape that I am in. I only suffer from minor injuries such as some bruises, skin tears and cuts. My friend somehow made it through with not a scratch at all!!! If we would have slid off the road six feet earlier we would have slammed a 4 foot embankment and a huge culvert and six feet further, we would have slammed a big oak tree. I praise God for every day he gives me and I will always remember the day he saved me from this awful crash.

P.S.- Unbelievably, out of all 11 rods we had with us, only one was broken. Praise God for that also!

No I wasn't wearing it. Honestly people keep telling me that most people die when they are ejected so I feel very fortunate. And Yes I will most certainly always be wearing my seat belt.

I know how it is to get behind an old Coonass and have to go slow.

Next time be patient and leave earlier just in case you meet up with another slow driver.

No lol the insurance doesn't cover the rod unfortunately. Fortunately I just put full coverage on my truck about a month before college.

I'm glad to hear that you two both survived and that you've learned that seatbelt use is more than just a way to save yourself the cost from a ticket. Later on when you stare at those age lines in the mirror each morning, you'll find out why there seems to be so few old risk takers behind the wheel.

Sounds like the only thing left to do now is to figure out what to do with the second chance at life you've been given.

I would suggest to anyone to take an accident avoidance course if it is offered in your area. My home track when I used to be a course marshal for sports car racing offered it. Drivers ed courses only teach you to pass the test, it is amazing what these classes can teach you. There are a lot of misconceptions about handling loss of traction.

We were in between I-20 and Homer. I was on my way to pick up my boat and head to Lake Claiborne. Luckily I didn't have my boat behind me. The wreck could have been alot worse with that plus I would have been out of a truck and boat.
