Over the summer I dropped my multitool in the livewell (saltwater). It rusted up shortly after that but was still usable. I just tried to use it a few minutes ago and it is really stuck, takes a lot of effort to open some of the tools.

So with Christmas coming up I figured it would be a good time to look at investing in a new one. So what's the best, baddest ass multitool I can get?

A friend has a Victorinox that is very elegant. It is well built and about the same size as my Leatherman Blast. I don't know what model it is but they have a web site:

I have had my Leatherman for years and would buy one exactly like it if I lost it. Great tool for the money IMO.

I've owned a Leatherman for decades, and have put it through some hard use in adverse conditions. Still works like it's brand new (of course, I sharpen the blades every now and then). I highly recommend getting a holster for it.

I have a Gerber an love it I think it's aloes the flick but not certain it army issued but it's also available in stores only difference is the color. It's nice I just flick my wrist and the pliers slide out so when I got a squirmy fish it's nice I can keep a hand on it and still deploy the multi tool easy. The blades are razor sharP and hold and edge great and the wire cutter part is replaceable incase the chip or get dull.

Gerber Titainium. Good stuff at a reasonable price.

Get a leatherman, it will last you for a century. The leatherman I am using was giving me to when I was 10, and 20 some years later I am still using it. My wife got me a leatherman Surge for my birthday this year, and it is still in the storage somewhere. Not planning on using the Surge, until I break my current leatherman(probably not going to happen).

Yeah the one I currently have is a Gerber Resolve. Good tool but I want to upgrade. I was looking at the Leatherman Charge AL or the Wave with an extra bit kit.

The Charge is about $30 more expensive and the only difference is the knife is made from a slightly better steel than the knife on the Wave, and the handles look different. I figured since I always have a knife on me anyway, I would probably be better off going for the Wave which has all the same tools plus it comes with 6 additional bits.

Any model that has the blades on the inside of the handle when in the pliers position. The Leatherman has those on the outside of the handle and gripping something with force or cutting heavy wire (hooks) is painful to the hand.

I have several multi-tools and use the Gerber the most for heavy work and carry a Leatherman Micra with scissors all the time. I don't carry the regular Leatherman any more since getting the Gerber.

I agree with Wayne P. I've carried a Gerber Compact Sport for 10 years or more, and even with nearly daily use on my job, it's still going strong (I did have to replace the sheath).

I just bought my dad a Super Tool 300 to keep in his truck. That thing is a monster.

sog eod a little more than a leatherman but i think its worth it.

Sog makes great stuff, I have a Seal Pup Elite.

SOG does make a great tool there only downfall I think is the knife blades they are very thin yes there sharp butiv seen them break and snap A LOT in the 4 years iv been in the army.

I searched for a long time before I come up with my choice. A fishing multitool should take place of all the tools I carry. I settled on a Leatherman Charge but a Wave has the same tools. Along with the pliers and knife blades it has a thin diamond file that is a excellent hook sharpener. It even works real good at sharpening trebles,A must have for a fishing tool. It also has a tiny eyeglass screwdriver. I sharpened one end of it and now have a jig head paint remover.To sharpen trebbles , lightly do two sides at once. A thin diamond file is ideal.

The Charge/Wave have everything a freshwater fishing tool needs.
