Rage Tail

Recommended Posts

So lately I have been using the Rage Tail craw. I Thought it was just another "fad" if you will. (my first time ever throwing a Rage craw was at 11pm and I was smelling a skunk but I said to my buddy "I guess I want to see what the rage is all about" in somewhat of an "un-believer" tone, wouldnt you know it that very cast I landed a 3lb 10.oz bucketmouth from my local city lake) But after catching a fish almost every single trip on a Rage Craw now, no matter how cold or wacky the weather is I am a FIRM believer. However I was wondering what is the science behind the coffee scent? Do fish really like coffee? Call me weird but personally I love the smell when I open up my jig box and I can smell the RAGE!

Also what are some other ways to rig the Rage trailers besided behind a standard skirted jig? I recently bought a single pack of every type of Rage bait I could find on black friday. From Toads (no idea how to rig those lol) to single tail grubs. Any insight would be greately appreciated!

Look through the paper that is packaged with them. Those are the ways that they recommend rigging them. Of course, you can always add a little twist to that.

I've always been under the impression that the coffee scent is there to mask human scent, but I guess the fish could really like it too.

I wonder if they are going to come out with a decaf scent?

I'm pretty sure the coffee masks the human scent and the salty taste resembles the salt content in blood which makes them hold on longer. I know someone was talking about it on the tv show Classic Patterns.

They are all killer baits, but for a good time. Texas rig a 4/0 EWG with a Eeliminator and slow roll that baby on top. I catch a lot of my eeliminator bass on top in open water. It doesnt just have to be in vegetation or cover. That single bait is one of my best weapons. If they arent hitting it on top, i use it like a jerk bait. If they doesnt work, i carolina rig it. I cant remember what size hook i throw the toads on, before the eeliminator, the toad and shad were my "go to" slop bait. Its either a 3/0 or 4/0.

The baby rage craws and Smokin Roosters are amazing baits also. Rage baits just get me all excited.

We use the 3" Baby Craws in Amber/Green, Watermelon and Bama colors Texas and Carolina rigged on 3/0 or 4/0 and as jig trailer always with good success.

As for the coffee, I know I take a bag of grounds with me when I Crappie fish and it's like crack for them. I put my small jig tube in the coffee and shake it good every 3-4 casts and can easiy bring in dozens within a 30 minute feeding run. Without coffee..not even close.

The hubby noted the increase in catch rates as I was hitting 5:1 his rate with the coffee, in the same school and run spot. So, he tried the Rage coffee line of lures. The end. Strike King gets credit for his increased catch rates and my Maxwell House still comes along in a zip lock...just in case.. :D

Enjoy the Rage and a cup of coffee!

Hard to beat a Rage Craw with a 1/8 tungston weight pegged. Flip that sucker into some brush and hang on!!

We'll if it doesn't work you'll have some wonderful smelling craws!

But Tom D can tell ya I do well when I have my Maxwell House on hand. At least the Crappies dig it.

Have fun roadwarrior! Best wishes, sir, to catching a coffee lunker...
