making a bass fishing tackle box kit ?

Featured Replies

I planning on making a tackle box kit for my cousin that 12 yrs old I was wondering what would you put in the kit if you made one for you son , friend or cousin ? Do you know what a good tackle kit ?

I would include small hooks, split shot and bobbers for pan fish and beetle spins and small crankbaits for bass.

Mainly what Dp said. Also a few of the local baits that work well.

......as stated above,

just make sure there are beetle spins!

(i seriously love those cheap little baits, they'll catch anything!!!!)

maybe an original rapala floater or two, those are classic baits that work wonders as well.

Bobbers, small grubs on a jig head, they'll catch bluegill all day. Smaller hooks, and then the spinners.. Kids (at least mine) love the spinners. But at 12 the attention span is longer so I don't think its too young to to start teaching him bass fundamentals.

Try some small spinnerbaits and 4 inch finesse worms. These baits catch alot of smaller fish, but a 12year old just wants to catch fish :) If he likes it ( and he WILL ;)), upgrade to 7'' worms, toss in a couple poppers, a wakebait, and maybe a few senkos. Make sure ya don't keep him out to long, as he'll get bored :-[ Try a one on one tourny or two. It'll add more excitement :D

If the person was with you, I would let them pick out a bag or two of worms.

At least 2 Mattlures hard bluegills.

Spro BBZ-1

A couple of Huddleston swimbaits

12in Curly Tail Worms

and LOTS of Jigs with paca craw trailers.

On the contrary, I doubt that a 12 year old  has the patience to throw swimbaits or large worms, and jigs aren't exactly the best learnin' tools either.....................Just my two cents.

I don't think you caught the not-so-subtle sarcasm that post is heavily laden with...  ;D

Yeah, and that would be one expensive tackle kit  :)

1/4oz spinner baits

1/4oz Rat-L-Traps

Chug Bug

bobbers/live bait hooks

2/0-4/0 EWG hooks

Senkos

I would also suggest a jitterbug He will like the excitement of it coming across the water and be really excited when a fish slams it. Nice thing they will catch bluegills as well as monster bass.

lots of spinnerbaits and senkos - spinnerbaits are a given, but the kid will learn early to like bass fishing if he knows that he can at least get bit on a senko. Plus they don't have the same learning curve as a worm or jig

Senkos, crappie jigs and small tubes, shallow cranks are good too like a manns baby 1 minus.

Definitely should take a look at ultra light kits from Rapala, those little baits are fish catching machines (although I feel they are a little overpriced)

I'll echo that! Kids like visuals and teaching them to work a top-water will be easier than something that they have to imagine what is going under the surface.

Someone else mentioned pre-rigged worms. I still fish the 4" Creme's.

Buy him a few patches that his mom can sew on a windbreaker so that he has a 'fishing jacket'.  :D  If you're in a situation where you live nearby and can also fish with him, you might ask around at tackle shops or marinas to see if they have those "3 LB CLUB" patches that he can add to his jacket. Keep a couple with you because, if Uncle Berkley is taking him fishing, he's gonna need one! :)
