I will be fishing this rod with alot of jerkbaits, top water, and some blade baits, and red eye shad in 1.2 oz. I'm thinking length between 6'9"-7' I dont want to go over 7' because then I will start hitting the water with the rod tip.. I was looking at a 6'9" duckett or a 7' med. or even 7' med heavy. I want the rod to have micro guides, I was looking at ducketts because they are excellent for crankbaits, with great action. Any suggestions?

I lean toward the medium for all of these presentations except the spinner bait. I like the medium heavy for that. The only drawback of a microguide rod is icing up in the cold. If you like braided line the medium would be enough.

dobyns champion glass, i have 2 of them, they work like wonder, they dont have microguides. i dont see the point of having microguides if you are gonna using a moving baits.

6'6 MH.

You don't really lose much of anything by having a shorter rod, but you gain a bunch by not banging the side of the boat, or catching on limbs if fishing from shore/close to shore.

I use a 6'6 Falcon Lowrider xg, MH F, for jerkbaits and wouldn't have it any other way. Can't stand when a more moderate tip, and/or softer rod absorbs the action I'm trying to impart.

When I had a kayak, I used to walk the dog with a 7'8" rod. Just saying.

Love me some long rods.

Last year I "eliminated" that rod from my line up, thinking I could do all of that with my 7' M power, fast, St Croix Legend Tournament. While it tossed square bills fine 90% of the time, I hated it for top water and jerkbaits. And also found I missed the short rod for close in work with square bills.....sooooo.....I need to buy another 6'6" my self.

Hrmmm, that's three entirely different rods with entirely different actions. A 6-3 MXF for the jerks, 6-9 MXF or 6-9 MM for the topwater, and a 7-2 MM for the squarebills. The 6-9 could work for blades.

I think a 6'9" duckett med heavy "fast" is going to be most ideal after looking into it, it has a fairly soft tip too, I may get a 7' MH thought.

My dedicated jerkbait rod is an Avid AVC66MF. I would be suitable for all of the techniques you listed.
