GY flappin Hog

Featured Replies

thats the topic. ive got a question.

im shore angling. ive been producing up in the north quite well this year with senko. Pretty much my home lake is weeds, and senko pulls right through.

BUT I WANT A BIG ONE! Ive been hearing that GY flappin hogs can produce bigger bass. which i believe is true. but...is that conditional? so i bought a pack.

if i'm dragging, small hoppn, this on a t-rig through heavy weeds, is it really going to produce bigger fish for me, or should i go back to senko? been out a couple times and it doesn't produce as well. keep in mind i don't have access to alot of fallen trees, stumps to pitch into. How would you work this if you were in my shoes?

thanks a mil.

Fish the Flappin' Hog as a jig trailer, it's THE BOMB!

Combined with a 1/2 oz jig, the presentation is big and

appeals to larger bass.

I'm not so sure it will produce larger size fish, on average,  than its cousin, the Senko.

If you're after larger size fish, use it as a trailer on a jig.

would you guys work it the way i suggested above ?

drag....small hops?

wouldnt i get hung up on weeds?

Slightly off topic, but if you want larger fish and senko's work for you, then my first suggestion would be use a larger senko.

I wouldn't t-rig it. They are not very big baits and require small hooks to t-rig. Plus, they really don't have too big of a profile on their own. Use it as a jig trailer.

I like to fish the Yamamoto Flappin' Hog on a Texas rig and

pitch it to holes in the vegetation. Just be patient and build

some confidence in the bait. You know if it is being made

by Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits, it is going to catch fish.

You just have to believe in its ability.

Try every method of retrieving you can think of.  Vary it, and mix it up.  You can use small hops or just twitch it along.  You can also drag it, with intermittent pauses.

Most jigs have brush guards to make them fairly weedless.

Football heads are supposedly better in the rocks, but more troublesome in vegetation.  Narrow swim type heads will work better in the grass and weeds.

To make the brush guard more effective fan it out from side to side occasionally.  You'll have to do it from time to time since its memory will return it to the original shape over time.

My PB (just over 10lbs) was on a t-rigged flappin hog.  I can't tell you how many bass over 5lbs I've caught on this little thing t-rigged.

You can hop it, drag it, or even dead stick it with an occasional slight twitch.  I've even caught fish just swimming it back on a steady retrieve.

Works great with a 1/4 oz weight or weightless on a 3/0 EWG.

I usually use it as a jig trailer these days, just because when t-rigged its often a one fish bait.  They will rip it apart quick!  I've gone through 3 to 5 packs in a half day of fishing before, which was up to $35 in plastic.

Putting it on a jig also helps to keep the dinks off of it.

This is off topic, but if you really want bigger fish and are having trouble using the flappin hog give some of the big grubs from GYCB a try using a screw in bullet weight like the six inch and eight inch grubs, those babies catch monsters. Read up on them at *** if you need to learn how to work them and I'm sure he has an article somewhere about the flappin hog as well. ;D
