Which worms float

Featured Replies

Which worms float?

Zoom has the finesse worm, the trick worm, the u-tail, etc, but I have no clue which of them float.  What brand and style of worms are you all aware of that were specifically designed float, and which were specifically desinged to sink?

Hand poured worms usually float.  I've found tht alot of worms that are said to float, don't, even some labeled as floating worms.

I believe all of Zoom's products sink.

If you want something that floats you will mostly have to look for products that say "handpoured", not always but most of the time.

I've been looking for something like this too. I want a floating worm preferably a trick worm style that will float a 3/0 hook.

***'s "Floater" will float, but not with a 3/0 EWG hook. It may float with a fine wire 2/0 offset hook, though.

The tail floats good on a shakey head

There's several more if ya search "Hand Pour" on Tackle Warehouse.

        Hope this helps,

Bass Junkie, if you notice the write-up for the Bass Pro worms ,"These highly-effective soft plastic Floatin' Worms stay near the surface"," I would guess that they do not actually float.

Touche'.................I had known of them from the catalogs, so I thought they floate. Sorry.............. :-[

I think the Roboworm Straight Tail is suppose to float after it loses the salt. I'm not really sure though because I've only used it once and didn't pay attention. You can check out their website.

KICKERFISH HOLE SHOT WORM... Hand's down, the best tail floating worm out there..

Luck "E" Strike sells a floating worm kit at Wal-Mart for a little of nothing and those worms actually float.

Also, I hear that the Strike King 3X series of soft plastics float.  Never used them though.

The Strike King 3X red lable lures float, but I have never seen a Trick worm size in that material.  All the newer marketed ElaZtech lures have salt in them just like the former 3X purple lable lures.

The Luck E Strike so-called Floating Worm kit is also available here:

If I see them at a Walmart, I buy them for a test. None I have tested have floated that claimed to be a floating worm.

No need for the "so-called" floating, they really do float.  I've tested them myself.

Yep, I had a bag of strike king 3X in red shad that floated real well..problem is they get  torn up real fast.. :)

The Berkley Shaky worm floats beautifully on a shaky head, but I doubt it would float a 2/0 or 3/0 hook. Hope this helps some..

broncoboxer, I got one of the kits and yes the worms do float, but not with a light wire 3/0 hook. The plastic is a lot tougher than most other bait brands and a Texposed skin hooked point rigging may be necessary for good hookups.

I'll donate the kit to some kid that could use some tougher soft plastic baits.

Thanks for the tip about a real floating worm.

the sk 3x zero, zulu and lizards will float a 3/0 gammy hook all day long.

having trouble keeping them on there? shhhh... its a secret... gammy's skip gap hook will hold the elaztec leures all day through many many fish and not rip the baits.

many many times i have fished the same zulu2 with a skip gap in less than a foot of water and caught dinks all day long on the same bait. ditto with the zeros. i also LOVE this rig for inshore fishing as i dont constantly have pinfish pulling my lure off or ripping the tails off my lures,( they cant rip the elaztec).

i know theyve been around along time but ive noticed that my region doesnt buy either of these products and they are getting hard to come by.

thats ok with me though cuz ill just order them and keep saving money and catchin fish. :)

it does kill me though that sk changed their formula on the zulus and the zulu too's. i dont like the new ones as much as the older softer ones.

Gotcha.  I haven't tried them with a 3/0 hook.  And you're right about the plastic being hard.  A Senko, for instance, is so much softer.  It's like comparing a rubber glove to a Michelin tire.

Correct on all but one thing. Zero's sink. They are Senko type baits.

After catching several fish and losing their salt content, they will eventually start to float though.

Z-Too's sink verrrryyyy slowly due to salt content.

If you can still find Zulu's, they float.
