Hey Guys,  Haven't been on here in a million years but, since I've been away I've had some luck. All these fish were weighed and released. The picture at night was at Chickasaw Gardens. 7lbs

  • Saw this one crash the bank on some shad. He took the squarebill in two casts. It was so windy, I had to cast it inland to get it to fall in his zone a few feet off the bank. 3.2lbs, Johnson-fountains

  • Recent catches since Sunday. Top-3.8, bottom left-3.6, bottom right-2.9. All on t-rigged worms of different colors, all between 8:30am and 10:30am. Johnson Park ponds.

Coloradofire also very generously offered to help me get on the fish as well! You guys are awesome! Be great to meet everyone. I should be given some visitors passes for the Memphis in may BBQ comp and I would be more than happy to share them with any of you guys if you would like to attend. Such a great fishing community ??

First bass I've pulled out of the Grove in a loooong time.

Snuck out after dinner and hit a local pond before dark. Caught 4 including these 2 big ones. One was prob around 5 and the other had to be close to 7. It was really long. Everything hit an Academy popper really close to the banks. Not bad for about an hr of fishing.

Oh don't do that too me lol. I got my hopes up with roadwarrior and coloradofire to go out and slay them hahaha! Either way a great day will be had with new friends.

Do any of you local guys have any info about these lakes just south of Catch Em Lakes off Walnut Grove? This is directly south of Patriot Lake in Shelby Farms. From Google maps, it looks like they might be part of Shelby Farms. One is called Refuge Pond & the other is next to the Battlefront Lazer Tag & Paintball place, but it appears to be un-named.

Would like to know if these are public & worth fishing. Thanks.

I think it's just a little pond for people and kids to fish for stocked bluegill. I doubt it's meant to fish very seriously.

Up in Piperton for a crawfish boil on a private pond. Of course I brought my fishing gear. 3lb on black/blue spinner.

Yeah, I called Shelby Farms. Didn't sound like it was worth fishing & the pond next to the lazer tag is off limits.

Between two of us we landed 16 today in a couple hours on a private lake from the dock. Caught on spinner, senkos, and squarebill. For some reason the crappie just couldn't stay away from me. My buddy landed a 5lb, and another larger one broke his line right as I was pulling it up on the dock.

Hey all. I am new to the forum. I caught this guy Saturday night in C'ville... I am from Iowa, North Iowa, and grew up fishing mainly in Minnesota and Canada, been here 3yrs and finally beating the shores again... When I hooked this, picture below, I honestly didn't know what the dang thing was, and still am not really sure, but is it a white bass? And if it is, did I just throw back a state record without weighing it? The thing was certainly heavier than 6lb, maybe closer to 7-8lbs... Heck, that is 1.5lb bass and on the bottom, 1lb catfish in the middle, you can see the standard size metal stringer loop on the bottom.. It was heavy on, and crushed my t-rig powerworm, I was on 6lb fluro and I fought it for a good 10min because it was fighting like mad, never jumped, and I was *not* going to lose it trying to man handle it in. Tell me its a carp... I know it isn't... dang, I've never even heard of white bass... It was 9pm on Saturday, my wife was mad I was still out, phone kept vibrating, skeeters were eating me alive, hadn't eaten since noon, but after something had hit my line hard and I lost it around 8pm, I wasn't leaving... So I kept fishing around the little estuary leading down to the pond, which ran into a nice drop off... and sure enough hauled this guy out. Anyways thoughts was I landed?

Ok good, only 50lbs off the record :D. I'm headed to the grove in 30min, I'll let you know if I catch and release another state record

And I do remember landing one when I was kid in Minnesota, it was silver though and pops called em grunts or grinders :bubbles:

Welcome to the forums.  Nice fish!  Even nicer if they were caught and released!

I catch and release, all those fellas back in. I just stringer up if I get a few in a row to take some group pics... was at Grove all day today for the first time and got skunked.

How's it going guys! Looking to take over the waters again soon. I've had some luck lately. Caught my PB earlier back in March but my phone won't let me upload it. Around 6 lbs from a white chatterbait.

Been doing pretty good lately. I finally purchased my first baitcast to my arsenal. The game is about to change!

Texas rigs and topwater have been working for me.

Just 30 min ago, I  lost my new favorite lure to a tree ?. Getting back out first evening tomorrow!

Anybody getting out evening time tomorrow or Thursday before the rain comes? Hopefully the rain will pass.

Where is the Grove located at heard there was some nice size bass in there..... Catch Release Repeat

The Grove can be tough like that(for me anyway). I often get skunked there and give up and go somewhere else and come back a couple weeks later. It's some of the better scenery in the area for bank fishing, I certainly like the solitude of it.

Depending where you're coming from, turn onto Johnson Rd(next to Houston Middle School) off Wolf River

and take your first left into that neighborhood. Follow that road around and your first or second left should be into a little parking area.

We went back to that private pond today. The bite dropped off tremendously from yesterday. Landed "just" 6(10 less than yesterday) between the 2 of us in a couple hours. No size to speak of, but the crappie seem to be enjoying the squarebill I've been tossing.

Hh5XGZa.jpg

Could we have just lucked up on a large population of fish yesterday and subsequently pressured them out in just a 24 hour time difference? We were tossing the same lures and everything. Needless to say, we're going to take a brief break from that hole for a little bit.

After Grove I headed to the big pond at Johnson... I landed a 4lb bass, a few nice 2-3lbs over the weekend and monday, but was skunked there today as well! And it figures your numbers dropped at the private pond. I guess it is the high pressure and sun following the low pressure overcast days we had. I changed my retrieve, depth, lures, I chanted, burned incense, did a fish god dance, screamed, yelled, cursed, begged, cried, and then had a sense of enormous peace and acceptance after talking to a couple of turtles about the meaning of life.

Saw this one crash the bank on some shad. He took the squarebill in two casts. It was so windy, I had to cast it inland to get it to fall in his zone a few feet off the bank. 3.2lbs, Johnson-fountains.
