Which rod do you guys think is best for throwing lipless cranks? mostly 1/2 oz

I'm leaning toward the BPS Crankin Stick 7' MH or M

The rod's price range is $100 or lower

I'd go MH in that rod. I have one in a M and the MH would be better for 1/2 ounce traps.

I'd lean toward the MH if fishing cover and ripping weeds

Is the Shimano Compre cranking rod that much or at all better?

I use rods from ML to MH power, and moderate to fast actions for lipless cranks. Depends on the weight of the bait and whether you are in open water, or as DVT said, ripping in weeds. If fishing open water, the Crankin' Stick in M or MH would work OK. But, if you will be ripping the bait through grass, most folks would want a faster action rod.

For me - I fish 1/2 ounce lipless cranks more than any other weight in mostly open water but some grass and I use a St. Croix Premier 7'mf rod (which is rated to 3/4oz baits and really fishes about halfway between an M and MH).

I just bought a rod for traps and square bills that is also going to make a great larger jerkbait rod. It is a 6'10" medium heavy power, moderate fast action Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth rod, it has a tip like a fast action rod that will let you work the bait and rip it free from grass but has a lot more flex than a fast action rod so you have the fish fighting ability of a cranking rod, and while they retail for $129.99 you can get it on Amazon with free shipping in the $77 - $80 dollar range, a steal for a rod of thiat calibur if you ask me. The only downside is you may not like the 6'10" length, I happen to like rods that are 6'6" with 7' being a long rod for me so this is like the best of both worlds as it is long enough to make those long distance casts but still short enough for accuacy when casting to targets. I just had my frien who is also the local butcher weigh my rod on his certified scale, 3.83oz , not too shabby for a medium heavy powered rod.

I have a 7'MF Shimano Sellus Crankbait Rod that works good for lipless. BTW it's $60!

It's a glass/composite rod. Slow action, lots of back bone. I've been happy with it....I actually catch a lot of fish cranking smallies with it to, it is fairly versatile for the average angler.

The Shimano Compre has a over the counter life time warranty.The new Compre should be a very good rod I have some Crucial rods and they are very good.

I'd tend to stay closer to regular graphite. The BPS Crankin' Sticks are faster than a moderate glass crankbait rod. I'd grab the MH crankin' stick in a heartbeat and go toss some 1/2 ounce traps. They go on sale frequently.

If' I'm banging rip rap or rock piles, I use a 7' MH/Mod action graphite rod. For snapping off weeds, I prefer a faster taper, a 7' M/F works great for me.

Pretty much the same for me, except I use my 7'10" H/Mod cranking rod in place of the 7' MH/Mod J. Francho uses. I think we use the same 7' M/F rod for ripping out of weeds.

I use a Powell 703CB Glass and love it for all trap fishing. Has plenty of backbone to rip out of weeds (which I primarily do) and enough give to fight a big fish.

If I use a 7'm I'll use a f or a ef. In my Kayak I only take 2 rods! I normally take a 7' and it's either a f or a ef (depending on the day) Both of them work great on a lipless crank.

If I am also throwing squarebills I'd rather use a MHM Glass... crank rod,

Does anyone uses the Veritas M/F or the new Compre or Crucials Crankbait rods M/F for squarebills and lipless cranks? How do they compare?

I had but sold a 7'M Veritas. If I remember it was a bit light for squarebills I now have a 7'6'' MH Veritas and it's way stiffer.

Would you say they're better FB jigs rods?

I use a 7' Kistler Graphite plus (crankbait special) and are reasonably priced if you can find one,don't think they're made anymore.
