Anyone else heard this?

That BPS will match the prices of other local competitors? I just heard this yesterday and I was wondering if it were true.

Most major retailers will.  I have done it at BPS before.

It's on paper that they do but instore experience varies.  It's like pulling teeth to get the BPS in Cincinnati to match their own prices from the website since apparently they are two seperate entities and the computers at customer service don't have Internet so they can check prices, and for anywhere else, you have to have a print out, they have to have a physical address, and sales don't count.  Someone here said they don't match *** because it's not in appropriate driving distance to the physical address

They tried to pull that one with me too.  Here is how you solve that problem...

*** has a "over $50 = Free shipping" policy.  If you go to customer service and quote this, they will match the internet price and not try to tack on the shipping charge.

We all know how easy it is to amass $50 in baits at BPS, unfortunately... :-[     ;D

About three years ago, I was at the Detroit BPS, and they refused to give me the lower price.

it is because of that (and the crazy discounts they give to fellow college anglers) is why i use tackle warehouse 99% of the time!!

The BPS in Richmond, Virginia matched their catalog price on their mono with no problem.

I have never asked BPS to match any other store's prices as we have Greentop that has a far better selection and lower prices than BPS.  ;)

Most "match prices" advertisements state they will only match store advertised prices and not internet advertised prices. This for the most part, is because internet advertising is not necessarily current pricing.

BPS Policy:

Price matching with competitors:

Competitor price matching requests will be granted if the prices are current, dated and nationally advertised.  The following exceptions are applicable:

All conditions on ad will apply (i.e. limited quantities, special purchases.)

   * Items to be price matched must be an exact match (i.e. color, pattern, model size, and year.)

   * Bass Pro Shops will not honor prices on closeouts, clearance items, inventory reductions, special buys, discontinued, or reconditioned merchandise.

   * Website prices will only be honored from established retail companies that are open to the public and have a physical address.

   * Bass Pro Shops will not honor supply companies, wholesale, clearance outlets, manufacturer's sales or membership clubs (Sam's, Costco)

   * We will not match private label merchandise.

   * We will not honor "buy one, get one free" offers.

   * We will not honor free bonus offers.

   * We will not honor rebates.

   * We will not backorder any out-of-stock item.

   * We will not honor any reduced or free shipping offers.

   * Publication errors of any kind will not be matched.

   * All price matches must be verifiable; a verifiable copy of the ad, complete with store name, sale dates, and model number of item must be faxed (417-873-5056) or mailed to us-Bass Pro Shops, Attn: Customer Service, 2500 E Kearney, Springfield, MO 65898

   * Request for price match must be received prior to end of competitor's sale.

   * Orders can be price matched within 30 days of purchase.

All price matches are subject to approval.

BPS matched a Cabelas price on a MK trolling motor a few months back even though the unit I wanted was out of stock at Cabelas. I called and explained that to the appropriate BPS dept. manager. He verified the price online, confirmed he had one (only one), and held it two days for me to pick up. I saved 125$

The St. Louis, Mo store is the one I am talking about. I have had great customer service there.

My BPS in Virginia will match Tackle Warehouse's prices.  They are in California.  The only thing they require is that the competitor has a walk-in store.

I don't like to play those games.  Whoever gives me the best price is going to get it.  I don't like to go up and say, "well so and so will sell it to me for this."  Maybe I'm just not a barterer.
