St Croix Legend Tournament Small Cranker

hey guys just found this website and am impressed. hope somebody has insight on this new rod. i throw a lot of small shallow cranks like rc 2s and kvd 1.0 and 1.5 as well as some 1/4 and 1/2oz traps on a mojo mhm. i prefer mod for traps. im upgrading soon to the lgend tournament and was eyeing the 7'2 MM LTB. any insight on thos rod or dropping down to m from mh. its st croix so it will handle a little more than a M anyway. thanks

I would go with the medium. It will make it easier to throw those lighter cranks since you are already going to have a challenge casting the 1/4oz. lures with a baitcaster.

I don't have any issues casting 1/4 anything with a baitcaster

I am not saying that you cannot do it but it isn't as easy as casting heavier weights and it's harder to do with a baitcaster than a spinning reel.

I have both, except they're Avids. I really haven't fished the MHM much yet, but I don't think you'll be able to throw 1/2 ounce traps on the MM. It turns into a noodle at that weight. I use the MM for more open water conditions and lighter cranks like the ones you listed. If you're fishing heavier cover, I'd probably just stick the MHM. I also think the MHM is a little more versatile if you decide to switch up your cranking style. I would definitely try and check the MM out in person before making the purchase though as a lot of guys have decided the rod wasn't for them.

I just got one of these rods in a 7'0" with a curado 51E. I haven't used it for throwing cranks yet, but it really shines for throwing 1/8 oz. jigs. They are a really sweet rod.

I'm personally not a fan of the M cranking rods by st croix. They are just too wimpy for my tastes. The MHM however i think are perfect. I own the 7'8"MHM LTB and the 7'HM premier but use the 7'8"MHM most of the time, love that rod. Wasn't sure how i'd like the change from 7 to 7'8" but boy i love it now!

I have a Avid AVC70MM. it'll throw 1/4 oz. peanut size cranks just fine, in fact, it excels at it. The rod itself reminds me of a casting rod built on a spinning blank. I have casted baits as large as DT16, and it's OK for that. Better to keep smaller. The LTB version should do exactly what you want it for.

yes, but it's the older version. i'm looking at the new 2012 rods.

x2 I have the Avid MM and it's really too light for anything over 1/4. A 1/2oz trap would hit you in the back on a hard cast.

I've also got the 7'0" MM LTB, it is awesome for small cranks. The fish really stay buttoned on this rod. I have used it with up to the 5/8 oz. Rapala lipless cranks , you would definitly be better suited with the MH for those applications though. It is great for throwing smaller cranks that dive 8ft or less, but I have also used it to fish the DT16 at times. If I had to chose between the MM or MHM I think I'd go with the MH, if not get both!

I agree, probably one of the below the overrating rods they make.

If you're looking to throw 1/2oz and say you can chuck 1/4oz with ease in a MH, then stick with a MH.

Tablet keyboard wont open on this site unless i press the code key
The mhm ltb is 7'8 and i dont want that length. The walleye seriess 7' mhm is to stiff compared to the older legend bass 7' mhm that was discountinued. I own other legends and extremes but no medium rods in either line. Its just that time to upgrade the crankimg rod but i may just drive the hour to cabelas to handle it.

In reality, the new LTB 7-2 is a pretty nice little stick, there's a caveat, though. I'd rather fish the Rage in that particular rod. The rage has a better feel for some reason. I can't finger it for certain, and I haven't fished it a TON, but for throwing squarebills and cranks like the SK 3XD and Warts, I really liked the Rage more. It loads excellently, particularly when you hit 7/16 ounce or so. It has a ton of power in the butt, and will flat move fish. The LTB feels a bit weak by comparison, it doesn't feel as powerful in the butt, and it's not quite as comfortable. The Rage has really surprised me for the amount I've fished it. I'll fish it over almost all of my other MM crank sticks, including my Loomis and old LTB. It's a great rod for 1/4-5/8 ounce baits for sure.

I have a Shimano Crucial CRCC711 MLF rod I use for small and medium cranks and it works very well. I have caught several fish in excess of 6 lbs with it without any problems.

Made the trek to cabelas tonight and examined the 7'2 MM. Hated it. Rod felt like a wet noodle. They did have the legend walleye 7' MHM which craig at st croix told me would be a stiffer version of ladt years nass edition. Wow was he wrong. Rod felt amazing. Felt exactly like wjat i wanted. Now i kust jabe to upgrade.
