Well I was heading to the mechanic after making arrangements to have my carbs and water pump worked on today. While on the way on a small slow speed road a shinny new mustang hit my motor! He claims my truck rolled at the stop sign and hit him. The road was flat and no hills BTW. Even if that was the case you have to give a guy room in case they have a stick and i do. He also came up to my window saw i had stick shift and then made the claim. What really happened was I slowed to go over rail road tracks and he wasn't paying attention and swerved and hit my motor. How else can he explain the fact his right side headlight is where the scratch is on his car. My motor is in the center of my boat held in place by transom saver and power trim.

So i went on to the mechanic thinking nothing was wrong when he spun my prop and it wobbled! He bent my prop shaft!!! Looks like it's going to be a expensive fix. I've called my insurance and his right away! Explained what happened. No cops were called because at the time it looked like there was no damage. He didn't see any on his until a second look and I didn't see any at the time to mine. I now see red paint on my motor from his red mustang. Man I'm ticked his insurance better not try to screw me around! .

You may have srewed yourself by not reporting the accident when it happened. Your insurance company might get stuck paying for your damage and you may have to foot the bill for the deductible also.

I'm glad you got his information. Did you happen to take any photos?
I was told that when I set the hook, I'd better have a bass or  it's lips attached.

Well we wil see what happens. First time I've ever been in accident like this. Cops weren't called mainly because we were close to just leaving neither of us saw any damage at first. It wasn't until the second pass that he saw anything and I didn't notice damage until I was at the mechanic a block away from the accident.. You don't SEE any damage to my motor until the mechanic spun the prop and it wobbled. Again we have now also noticed the red paint on the bottom of my motor and I will take a photo. I figure despite no cops its hard to dispute he's at fault for either situation. You can't ride a guy like that at a stop sign or at a railroad. HE states I rolled back and hit him. So what if that did happen (it didn') he has to give room. The road was flat and there is no way even if I'm wrong it couldn't have gone back more then 1ft.. My insurance company agreed, but im sure his might feel different. We were both on the phone with insurance companies minutes after.

Also, both parties end up paying regardless of who's fault by raised rates..

Always call the cops, not only is it suppose to reported since it was a public road, you also have to cover your butt if the guy wants to sue you a year down the road for whiplash or whatever

Around here the police will ask if anyone is hurt, are the cars are drivable, have you exchanged info. If your answers are no, yes, yes,, they wont respond in a timely manor. At one point I was told "you have what I need - move on"

What counts is where the impacts are on both vehicles, the rest is "he says - she says"

I hope all works out well. I'm sure your insurance company will pay for the damages and not increase your rate. You can always sue him in small claims court for your deductible.

I'm hoping for you that the guy only broke the plastic prop insert.

Under normal conditions police may not even respond if no one is hurt and the damage appears to be minimal. If someone hits you from behind, it's almost always their fault but the final verdict will be rendered by the insurance appraiser, so do nothing to the boat or engine until the damage has been inspected. If it's the other driver's fault, deductable waived without a blackmark on your record, your fault you pay. In some no fault states your insurance company covers your claim regardless of fault, in other no fault states the guilty parties insurance pay both claims.

I am always concerned about another driver not paying attention and hitting the boat while driving on the highway or local roads.

That is why I have put all types of decals on the boat to grab their attention. However, with everyone using cell phones and not paying attention the risk is always there.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Please keep us posted on how the two insurance carriers handle the situation.

Best of luck to you to have the other driver's insurance company pay for the repairs 100%.

Some states have at fault laws, if you hit someone from behind it's your fault regardless of the situation. I know Missouri does because I hit someone from behind because they didn't have breaklights and I didn't realize it until it was too late. Hope it turns out well for you and it could be worse. I saw a boat get rear ended at a red light a few years ago that knocked the motor off the boat along with a big chunk of the transom.
Is it spring yet??
