I couldn't sleep the night before a long anticipated trip into Wisconsin for some pike and smallmouth fishing, so I decided to hit my local waters before leaving.  I caught 21 bass all on topwater before the sun came up and another seven on cranks whle waiting for the ramp to clear.

I left for Wisconsin about an hour later and after a six hour drive, I dropped the wife at the hotel and hit the water. I boated nine pike over 30in., 11 smallies and a couple of largemouth over 4lb. before dinner.  I've only had a couple of 50+ fish days in my life, but none on two lakes almost 400mi. apart.

For shear numbers its hard to beat the Everglades in late winter when the water levels drop and the fish are concentrated in the deep canals.  A 200 fish morning is a real possibility day after day.

For size and numbers I will never forget a trip to the Stick Marsh in Felemere, Fla. with a good friend Bruce Campbell who lives close to the Marsh.  Bruce had 37 lbs. for his top 5, the largest was 9.7 lbs.   I had about 28 for my best 5, with my largest 7.3.  We caught 37 bass with 17 over 5 lbs.  It was an epic away trip, I will never forget it.

Remember a trip for a tourney and pre-fish down to Lake Shasta and Orville a number of years ago.  Took a 150 ol ugly tubes by Dry Creek.  Fished them on 1/8 oz heads....insert type.  I used up all the tubes in ten days of fishing .... mostly on spotted bass.  Maybe gave twenty five or so away.  Caught so many fish that I couldn't land a fish with my right hand any more...thumb was so tender.  Don't know how many fish for each tube ... but it was amazing and very memorable.  But then the older you get...hopefully the more trips you remember with friends and family.

I'm tied between my PB day and the day when I caught the most.

I don't fish in Florida or Texas, I don't catch thousands of fish or anything, and my PB is only 3 1/2 lbs. That said, catching him was a blast! (No, that's not him in my prof picture)
But I was once in the mountains of Virginia, at a private camp. I took a johnboat out on their pond, and the fish there had never seen fake bait. There were no biggun's in that pond, but I caught 23 bass in about 2 hours on a Hula Popper. My favorite way to catch 'em!

There was a private pond that I was allowed to fish when I was younger. Me and a buddy caught 51 fish in one day with about half of them being at least 3lbs.

The day I got my first topwater blowup.  A 3.5 lb fish, and it fought for days!  I was 12 and fishing with a jitterbug.  I hadn't had a bite all day and it was the middle of May, in Fl in the dead of the afternoon in open water.  I have had great days of fishing, but that one will always stick out from the rest.

any day i can fish.....

but i did have one memorable day where none of my buddies were catching a thing, i figured out the pattern pretty quickly and caught 8 fish to the grand total of 0 between the other guys.  made me feel good!

another day i caught my PB of 5lb6oz and after the excitement decreased enough to cast again i was immediately smashed by a 4lb10oz and was thrilled to death.  only caught a few more fish that day, but it was memorable for sure!

Lakes around here cycle water levels and fishing pressure. I've been lucky to hit Amistad and Falcon on some phenomenal days. 200 fish days of 3-5 lbs and a few in the 8 lb range on Amistad and anchoring over a hump on Falcon and catching nearly a hundred bass 3 lbs plus, but best of all was catching about 10 or more 8-10lbs too. Four of us fishing, three broke their personal bests multiple times that day.

Last night I stopped by a local quarry, and right as the sun was setting, a giant school of bass started breaking the surface, chasing shad.  At it's peak, there were 5 or 6 jumping out of the water every 2 seconds or so.  There had to be hundreds there, some of them many pounds larger than my personal best.  This went on for over 45 minutes.

I thew a KVD squarebill with no results.  Not even a sniff.

I thew a Rat L trap that was also completely ignored.

I thew a Megabass Giant Dog-X that had two swipes, but I took it away too fast in my excitement.

Even having not caught anything, being there for that incredible moment was my best day of bass fishing.

Back in the early 90's, I was fortunate to be invited to a private lake on the Gulf side of Mexico near Tampico. The lake was "run" by a Federali Game Warden who protected the locals food source by only allowing the lake to be fished in December & January of each year. I was warned to bring a batting glove which I ignored & paid dearly for, for about 2 weeks afterward. Lipping 200+ fish per boat per day ripped my hands to shreds (no net available). The lake was almost impossible to navigate due to the Hydrilla. The boat runners who were provided could go about 50 yards, then have to stop & reverse the prop, then repeat the process. Only the repeat fisherman were prepared, so the night time poker games were fierce for purple-white tail worms. I brought 5 packs & was out at the end of the first day.

I can only imagine what that lake is like now.

This year it happened a couple of months ago during a heavy downpour.  I caught 17 bass in a little under 6 hours.  They were all about a pound, but I had a blast.

River was super clear, and the bass were chewing swimbaits to pieces. Landed piles of largemouth up to 3lbs and my PB smallie @ 23" 4.2lbs...also landed a 3lb 19" smallie. S-Waver 168 and BBZ Jr. Watched every fish eat the bait and also saw plenty more just following it.
