Trying to decide on a new baitcaster. I'm not going to spend any more than $120. I'm really liking the Citica but I noticed today the Clunn is on sale at BPS for $70. My question is what do you guys think is the better value. The Clunn is $50 cheaper but the Citica is Shimano. Is there 50 more dollars of value in the Shimano?

You are never going to find a problem with something written SHIMANO on it. It breaks anybody will repair it, it breaks during the warranty period Shimano will fix it, for 10 years you will have parts to fix it.
BPS reels on the other hand......... :-?

d**n I'm glad I read this. I was trying to decide on the combo also. The Citica felt a bit heavier, but I'll go with the quality choice any day. I also heard that BPS reels were made by Pflueger and it's hard to find anybody to service them. Is this true?

I don't know about the BPS reels, but the Citica is a little heavier due to the addition of high efficiency gears to the reel. I would spend the extra money. Read the following review of this years Citica 200D:
http://tackletour.co...ica200dpg3.html
In their conclusion they state, "If you are moving from a previous generation Curado to the Citica you won't be disappointed unless you really are dead set on a 100 sized reel."

Santa is sposed to bring me a Citica for x-mas but the bait monkey made me buy the Rick Clunn last time I was at Basspro. (Cant pass up a sale!) I fished 4 days with it so far and for 70 bucks I am very happy with it. The reviews on Basspros website convinced me to try it and they were right about being forgiving. Im new to bait casting and was throwing everything from light to heavy and no bad backlashes! I will see when the Shimano comes how they compare.

Thanks for all the info guys. I've talked to people that have loved the Clunn and I've talked to and have heard from even more people that like the Shimano and after all it is a Shimano. I'll be going with the Shimano. Unfortunately I'll probably have to wait until spring to use it. :
