I was enjoying this morning on my recliner in my pj's while drinking coffee and bieng on here. I just got a phone call nobody's wants to hear.  here's the story:

A few days ago I got done detailing the boat from inside and out, so I figured let's get the motor checked out while my mechanic's slow and it will be cheaper on me. Well I dropped it off yesterday afternoon when the snow slowed down, I left the cover on so it wouldn't get filled with snow. The one thing I asked was that he leaves it in the shop overnight. Apparently he didn't listen. I got a call from him a couple mins ago saying when he pulled in to his shop this morning he noticed my cover had blown off. He went over there to fix it and noticed my fishfinder was missing. So I gotta leave in a min when he gets back.

The thing that gets me the most is I didn't even lock any of the latches because I thought my boat was staying inside, So where's all my tackle and rods if my fishfinder is missing.

The only thing is killing me I should have known better to leave my stuff in it especially unlocked.

Thieves suck. Did your mechanic agree to store it inside when you asked him to?

Sorry to hear this. Thieves are lurking everywhere. I take everything out of my boat. I work too hard to have some idiot just walk by and relieve me of it. Hope you get your stuff back.
Why fish Mexico when you have Lake Falcon.

If he agreed to and didn't put it inside doesn't he have to take responsibility?  That sucks man, thats why I always take pretty much anything of value out of my boat since I can't store it in my garage.

I have this problem with my mechanic and my car. He leaves it outside even though I ask him to put it inside. If anything got stolen or damaged, it would be a battle of insurance and that would suck because he's my friend. ROCK.......AJR........HARDPLACE!! :-[
Hope he's not in that situation!!!

Good luck Joey, hope things are better than your thinking.  That sucks man. :(

I ran into ALOT of scumbags in my 25 years as a cop...and I must agree that the SCUMMIEST is the common thief. They think that what they do is a "minor" crime, but when you think about the affect on the regular guy, it is staggering. Guy saves up big time for a Lowrance unit and a bung hole steals it. The sad thing is...it's probably another fisherman in the area who is a scumbag. Advice to members here:
Make a small, specific mark on your stuff. Make the mark "in plain sight." Rods, reels, boxes, electronics, etc. Nothing big, just make sure it's the SAME mark on all your stuff. Why?? Most of your gear has no serial numbers. If you have to report it to the police, you tell them about the mark. If you find the item say, on someones boat, or mixed in with their gear, you can tell the cop, "That's mine..see that mark? If you show the cop the SAME mark on all your gear, 99% chance you'll get it back, and maybe the S.Bag gets pinched.  ;)

How well do you know you're mechanic and his employees?
Was the boat left inside a fenced in compound?

Here's another tip for stuff that can be removed from your boat, write or scratch the words (Do Not Pawn) on them where it can be seen by all.  Kind of gaudy, but effective for those who wish to sell stolen stuff for a quick fix.

Well, just got back a little bit ago. Here's how it went, I left this morning and as I jump in my wife's SUV I noticed my fishfinder on the passenger floor. (I must of taken it out yesterday when I left his shop.) To me this a good sign so I relaxed a little on the way. When I got there he had asked me if there was anything else besides my fishfinder was on the boat and I go on and tell him I got the fishfinder in my car. As we were talking I was walking towards the boat because at this point I just wanted to see what was missing. I got in the boat and was looking around. Luckily I locked my
2 tackle storage boxes, my storage lid (where my batteries and fuel tank are.) and my glovebox.

They got all my rods but 3. (they were home)

I got a new self inflating life vest when they went on sale at Cabela's at the end of the season. Never had one before, I always wanted one. I guess I can say now that I had one and like it. ;D

They even took my JJ's Magic  >:(

I didn't have everything in the boat at the time so my 2 back storage boxes were empty (besides my life vest).

But that's pretty much it from what I can tell. My mechanic is pretty good guy, he helps you out when he can and his rates are always good. He does have a fenced in area with camera's so he let me see how they ( 2 of them) jumped the fence and what they did. On tape it was all of about a min. they were in and out. One guy was in the boat the other was a look out. I seen him yanking on my rods to get them out and I think he broke one of them. That hurt  >:(

My mechanic is calling his insurance company about it on Monday and help if he can. But I know I'm screwed because he has a sign hanging up " Not Responsible for lost or stolen items." He's being sympathetic about it though, he didn't even charge me for looking over the boat until we get everything straightened out. I'm going to try and see if my insurance will cover it.

He did agree to store it inside, as he always does to all of my boat's I had there. But he left early and he forgot to tell the other guy to put it back in. So it was a simple mistake that turned into me being screwed.

I USALLY never have anything in the boat, but this time I left in a hurry to beat the snow and I just forgot. I don't know I guess I'll see on Monday.
As of right now though I'm out 11 rods, my vest and my JJ's  :(

Thanks for the support guys, I'll be back on it a little bit. I just wanted to come on here and give an update. I'm going down to go through the boat and cleaning it all back up again. I was so mad when I got home I backed it back in and closed the door.

That sucks, bro.  Hopefully the video is good quality and the cops can identify them.

Check with your homeowners or boat insurance on your loss.
