I saw on a YouTube video of a guy making a typical clinch knot. He said with that style of knot and really any other it is a good idea to "wet" the line with either spit, or water from whatever body of water you are fishing out of. He did this right before he pulled the line tight. Why is this? To make it get tighter? or can it actually loosen it prematurely? - Joe

This is done to reduce friction which can weaken the line and cause line breakage.

That makes sense. The last thing we all want is a broken line and a lost lure out in the water. :-)

I use an improved clinch knot about 90% of the time and I always wet the knot with spit before tightening it down.

i always wet my line with my palomar knot, one of the first things my old man tought me.

Goober it up reardless of the knot you use.

I spit on the line. I don't put it in my mouth. No telling what microbes are present on the line, you hands when you touched the rod or got onto your line from the water. Yuck!

I use spit, every knot, every time, reguardless of line.

I don't spit on braid, knots are fine without it. I spit on my leaders before cinching them down, if my hands are wet or very humid out I forego the spitting. I find the " lube" is most important when using over 15 or 20# test, not so much in the lighter lines. I use a lot of 40# leaders, it's a must then.

You ever tongue kissed someone? What about eating off plates or forks from restaurants? I bet the server or person wrapping the silverware in a napkin didn't wash their hands after going pee or poo.
