  1. I was casting a shad rap from the bank on my local river. I threw it out there, and a bug was swarming around my face,so i take a hand and swat at it. While swatting, the shad rap was floating down the river. I look up (still swatting) and a 6lb carp comes up and slams it on topwater. I thought it was interesting.
  2. Everytime I found a "private pond", Ive asked the owners and got permission. Everyone is pretty nice, if you are to them.
  3. I just cut it off. I dont have the recipe, and BPS is about 3 hours away. thanks anyway guy
  4. Yea, i mean all i bought it for was for my cousin to use and other people.
  5. We'll about three months ago, I bought a cheap Shakespeare spinning combo for around 30$. I was just gonna use it as a back up, or if a friend needed a pole. So the day I bought it, I put 12lb test on(recommended) and went in the back yard with a 1/4 oz weight. After about five casts, the line snaps, and the weight flys. I didnt think anything of it at the time, so I just threw it in the garage. So, last night I went out, and brought it. Line snaps, crankbait gone. I look at the line, and its good, so I start looking at the guides, sure enough the second to top one has a small crack in it. So i run line through the damaged guide to make sure I was correct, I was. The problem is, Ive never replaced a guide on a rod. It almost seems melted on, how do I replace it without damaging the rod. Dumb question, I know. thanks matt
  6. Whats the best time of the year to start using minnows.
  7. Yea, I was talking about catfish. But I went last sunday and didnt do any catfishing. Took my little cousin, I caught a couple dinks, and unfortuatly he didnt catch anything. But, I'm taking him fishing for carp, and then maybe some bluegill if that doesnt work out. Thanks
  8. After a couple outings with no caught fish at a local quarry, I finally had a good day. I got out of my classes at college and went fishing around 3pm, and got home around 6pm. During that time, I caught 4 largemouth which were dinks (10inches), but it doesnt matter to me. The only fish that got away was a nice lm which I estimated at around 2lbs. I went to the local bait shop, and got a new rapala jointed shad rap, and thats what killed em today. I know most people say a 10inch fish isnt anything special, but I just started fishing this summer, and Im really excited to catch anything. Since Ive been busy with college I havent been able to fish alot since I went to milcreek lake down in marshall, Illinois. But im going back sunday and Im gonna catch some catfish, and hopefully somemore bass. Ill be sure to have a camera this time. P.S. Has anyone tried a dip bait worm, and fill it with a catalpa worm scent. I got some from the bait shop, and I just wanted to see if anyone else has tried this.. Since I cant find a catalpa tree anywhere.
  9. Anyone ever caught a decent lm with one.
  10. nevermind guys, got it fixed, there was some dirt or somthing in the drag..sorry
  11. i tightened the drag, but nothing..
  12. A month ago I bought a Quantum bill dance rod and reel combo. Its my first baitcaster and I really started to like it. Yesterday while I was using it, it just stopped reeling line in, but the line guide(dont really know what you call it) is still moving back and forth. I had to reel the rest of the line in with my thumb. Im very confused with what is going on here, line wont reel in and im gettin frustrated. Im in need of major help, because Im going to clinton lake in bloomington, Illinois tomorrow. Its supposed to be one of the top ten fishing locations in the U.S. Thanks
  13. Same temps here too, but with rain in the middle.
  14. Wow, last time I went fishing for crappie, I barely caught 5. Good job
  15. Im newish to the forum, and dont post much at all. But Ive been following all of this stuff that has been going on. And to lighten the mood, a picture of a kitchen. Hope no one takes offense to my tasteless humor.
  16. Thanks for all the responses. The bad thing about this river is there is no fallen trees or any cover for that matter.
  17. I am new to the forum, and just want to say hello first. Hello. The only place to fish nearby for me is the Kankakee river. This river holds all sorts of fish, from gar to crappie. Its a long river and currents are pretty fast, and the bottom is very rocky. Ive caught fish here and there but not consistant at all. The only time i ever can almost guarantee just 1 fish is in the EARLY morning(5am). I always start out throwing a top water bait, like a torpedo. With no luck, and then move on to a crankbait then a soft plastic. Problem is, I dont have a boat and the river isnt all that deep. I get snags a whole lot when using anything other than a topwater bait. But the thing is, I havent gotten many hits off a topwater bait. I just want to know what my fellow fisherman can suggest to use on the river in the: Morning, Midday, and Evening. Also, how will I go about using the bait you recommend? I just recently got into fishing, since I am done with high school and have a summer to kill until college. Thanks O yea, Kankakee River is in Illinois.
  18. I have good luck super early in the morning.
