Drop shot from shore?
If you have plenty of room around you ( no trees or bushes) use the longest rod you have with a medium action. Cast like you are surf casting. Let the rig hit bottom then start shaking it a bit with plenty of pauses and drag it back to the bank slowly shaking and pausing. Carolina rig is also good from shore. Put a 1oz weight on it and you can throw it a mile! Just remember about the hookset. You will HAVE to let the fish have it for a few seconds while you reel up ALL your slack before you strike. You might be surprised how much stretch there is in most mono line.

Drop shot from shore?
That is how I got started bass fishing. Walked around ponds casting the DS. Found that the advantage was you could use a heavier weight and improve the distance casting, but the downside was lot's of line out and hooksets. Go with a 10 or 12# line, reel in slack before strikes and hit hard!

Please have a look at this fuel filter and give some advice. Merc 25.
Thank you sir. Cleaned it out and fueled it up and got it started after 5 pulls! Had not been cranked in about 3 years. Smoked a lot upon starting. No telling what was gunked up in there. Now that I know the motor runs, I can concentrate on getting it tweaked out.

Please have a look at this fuel filter and give some advice. Merc 25.
I got my 15 hp Johnson running and now and working on my Mercury 25. 70s model I would guess. Has not been run in a couple of years. I unscrewed this fuel filter from its' mount and it had some oily gas smelling looking stuff in the bottom of it. You can see some of it in there. My question is this....should it be screwed back in to the housing dry or should there be some clean oil or something in the bottom of the filter bowl. With the center section being just a screen, I can't see how an oil bath type set up would work, but what do I know. THANKS for your help. If you can't see the entire pic, just click on the pic a couple of times and it will come up full size.

Need to test a couple of motors. Correct procedure info needed.
I have picked up a couple of motors over the last few months. Johnson 10HP, Johnson 5HP and a Mercury 25. I need to test them before heading to the lake. Can someone post a good simple test procedure to make sure water is pumping etc. I have some "muffs" to hook up the garden hose, or I could fill up a large bucket for the 10 and the 5 if that would be better. Thanks for the help. What is the best way to drain the carbs without taking them apart? Thanks

Spray foam to take up gaps in keel......feasible??
This looks promising. http://www.wholesalemarine.com/p/F-E-654/Marine%20&%20Automotive%20Urethane%20Spray%20Sealant%20Foam.html Only drawback is that the can and the applicator might be single use, you have to use all of it at once. No partial use of contents. Anyone here use this product??

Spray foam to take up gaps in keel......feasible??
Got an old vhull aluminum jon with a leaky keel strip. Any one know of a small can product of spray foam with an applicator tube that I might be able to use to fill the gap space in the strip and prevent water from seeping in. The leak is very small. Just an idea. I bet someone has done it or tried it.

Line Conditioners
KVD!! I could not believe how much farther my casts were and how the line laid down. Put it on the night before. Amazing stuff.

How many rods have you guys broke?
Couple in car doors...one while fishing. Got hung up and gave a very modest tug on an 8ft Ugly Stick. Broke right into down at the handle end. Looked like you took a set of channel locks and cut it! No splintering or anything. Took it back to BPS and they gave me a new one.

Where can i guy yo zuri ultra soft line online?
http://www.srmo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc? Shark River Mail Order. The best price I found on the net for YoZuri Ultrasoft. They only have four weights. 10lb 12lb 15lb and 20lb. I just ordered 3 spools of 10 at that price. Shipping was reasonable at about $8.50 to me in Atlanta. Type in 'Yo Zuri Line" on the search area at the top of the page. I placed an order a few days ago using Paypal. A day later I got an email confirming my order was shipped. I have not been able to find this line in Atlanta for this kind of price. Now I am searching for a good price on 8lb.

Boating registration fees!$)(*&^#)#$#(*
I called them today. That is when they told me no walk ins. You have to send in a notorized bill of sale....more fees plus a pain in a.. Then you mail it in, and tack on $8 as a fee for handling the mail. $8 fee via internet and $10 fee via the telephone. THEN you add on the cost of the boat registration. Having fees to use the phone or the net or the mail is one thing, but when they eliminate the walk in places where you don't have to pay a fee and then the ONLY methods for payment they charge you a fee to use them....wrong!

How many of you carry spare spools with different line weight.
The spools I got were only $6.50 each......a rod and a reel cost a bit more than that. 100 x 6.50=$650.00. OVER TIME you might even need more than 100 spools of line. Last time I looked a excellent rod and a reel cost a bit less than that. I got three spools. That is all I need. Over time......I get double or triple for that. :-)

Boating registration fees!$)(*&^#)#$#(*
Picked up a few boats for cheap. $15 up to $100 each. Decent tri hull for $500. Now I need to register them all. Georgia has no more walk in places to register boats. You do it either on line, by mail or by phone. In addition to the fee for the sticker, you have to pay a fee to actually pay the fee!!!! $8-$10 extra each boat just to either talk to someone on the phone or have them open an email or snail mail. What a rip off!

Bought a couple of extra spools to take with me. Spooling up with different weight of line. Hope this will take the place of carrying another rod. Anyone here do this? I know you have to stop and spend a few minutes changing things out, but in situation where I don't have room for another rod, I am hoping that this works.

Trailer balance advice needed.
Thanks for the advice. I went ahead and set it up so that the bunks stick out about a foot with the 12ft boat and the 14ft boat hangs over the bunks about a foot. Best I could do to get the trailer to serve both boats.

Catfish Bait

Trailer balance advice needed.
I have a small trailer that came with a 14ft vhull jon boat. I also have a 12 foot vhull Jon. In order to get both boats to fit well on the trailer. I need to move the crank mechanism gizmo in the direction of the wheels. This will let the end of the 12 ft boat sit flush with the end of the skids, but now the 14ft boat will hang off the skids about a foot or so. The skids are at least 3ft long. My question.....is it OK for the back of the boat to hang off the skids and how much is too much. Right now when the boat is on the trailer, the front of the boat is very close to the vehicle. I am thinking that if I move everything back to where the boat is centered more over the wheels then I would have some space between the hitch and the boat and that would aid in backing and launching. The weight of these aluminum jon boats is not very much and the distribution over the wheels looks like the way it should be rather than the transom directly over the wheels. The trailer is one of those little Harbor Freight things for boats from 12-14ft. It does a good enough job and came in the deal. Here us a link to a pic of it on the HF site. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=5002 I just noticed in the HF pic, the piece that you secure the front of the boat to is positioned way more towards the wheels than mine is. It is easy to unbolt and slide. Any advice is welcomed.

1st time Brim Fishing
Try a drop shot rig. Use a very small bell sinker on the end and about 16" up the line use a palomar knot and tie on a long shank cricket hook. If you are not keeping the fish then bend the barb down so you can easily get the hook out and also add some more sport. If you are keeping them then just hook on a cricket, make a nice long cast and then start your retrieve. Let it sit for little while, then reel in very slowly about three or four turns and let it sit. You will feel a little tug. Just lift the rod quickly and you will have a great time.

Advice wtd for increasing casting distance.
I am using the KVD spray. I put it on the night before and it does help out. I am using smaller spool reels 35 and 40. Can't go down to 6lb line. I would never get fish out of the dense pads. I know that braided line is smaller diameter than comparable mono, but I did not have good luck with the braid and don't want to go there. I do like that YoZuri line. Need to find some of the soft Hybrid.
